The PADD tapped against her thigh as the lift moved through the ship. This was one of those times where she was glad she was stopping there and no where else. Her mind was too preoccupied with the contents of the PADD and the events surrounding it. When the doors opened, she steadied herself with a breath and headed off in search of her quarry. She pressed the chime to the office, knowing Kane was there and wondering what mood she’d find him in today.
Captain Myqian, CO
The door slid open to reveal… chaos. The space was large and in utter disarray by Star Fleet standards. Everywhere were bits of tech in various states of disrepair. Three long workbenches sat evenly spaced within the room; each seemingly dedicated to various kinds of research ranging from technological to chemical to… was that a holo of a ancient language tablet… amongst several others.
In the center of the… ‘office’… sat the shirtless, heavily tattooed form of the Ogawa’s resident Research and Development Chief and all -around a$$hole, Solomon Kane. He was laid out on the deck on his back, and streaks of carbon obscured some of the tattoos on his torso. His head was underneath something resembling a cross between a transporter induction housing and a massive waffle iron. Red pylons glowed softly, giving the figure underneath a rather menacing appearance.
“What?!” came the terse acknowledgement of the ship’s Captain’s presence.
Kane, R&D
Dira took in the whole space and the man with keen eyes and broke into a grin, holding back an outright chuckle. “And you gave me hell for the state of my quarters that one time.” The truth was that yes, that day had bene worse because she had bene in emotional distress for two days and failed to do anything amounting to adulting, but most days her place was messy. Few people knew she was so untidy, but she was a captain now and had a romantic partner who came over so she was at least making an effort now.
“I’d ask if you had a minute, but I’m sure you’d say no, so instead I’m just going to ask for a few minutes of your time.” Dira waved the PADD. “It’s slightly urgent.”
Captain Myqian, CO
Kane moved something, the red glow dimmed, he said ‘Oh sh!+’ softly and moved it back causing the glow to increase back to it’s previous level. “Gimme a minute.” and he waved an antique torque wrench towards the closed door to his office. “Go in there.” and the arm disappeared back under the contraption.
Dira was going to ask, but held back for now. She’d ask later, and heeded his instruction, heading to the possible safety of his office.
The office was a reflection of the owner… chaotic, irreverent, dangerous, and perhaps unstable. Things were strew everywhere save for the chair behind the desk. In the only other chair in the room sat three photon grenades taped together and covered in rainbow glitter.
“Seriously?” she muttered with raised brows. She supposed to did the trick of making sure no one stayed too long and that really did sound about right for Kane.
A few minutes later, Kane (now with a black t-shirt with white letters that read Back off, man. I’m a Scientist. on the front and He slimed me. on the back) walked in and went to the replicator and got a glass of water before taking a seat and kicking his feet up on the only part of the desk that wasn’t covered in PaDDs or bits of things. “what do you want?” he asked flatly.
Kane, R&D
She had thought about leaning against a wall, but there really wasn’t space for it. “Nice to see you too,” she deadpanned before she slid the PADD across the desk.
“Two things. One, I need you to confirm that this is the official report you want to submit with our testimony packet back to the JAG office ahead of a certain hearing that will happen soon, and two, just wondering if you had a particular death wish that day and if it’s something I should be worried about,”she said with a surprising lack of emotion given the situation. Kane and the others that had responded to the explosion that injured four security officers hadn’t known at the time they entered that Dira was missing and that that was why there had been people searching the shuttles. And of course Kane had kicked everyone else out and took all the risk himself. Dira was still trying to decide how she felt about that all, given that up until a few days ago she had never read the vivid details of the after-action report. As the Captain submitting everything officially on behalf of her ship she had. Yes, she could have asked Sinclair to, but it seemed wrong. She had been there and as far as she was concerned, it had been her mess to clean up.

Kane eyed her through the cascade of hair covering half his face for several long moments before he reached up and pulled the hair back to the back of his head. “Move those.” he said and stuck his chin towards the grenades. “I haven’t armed them yet, so they’re mostly stable.” he said flatly. He picked up the PaDD and began to read.
A few minutes later he set the PaDD down across the desk near Myqian and said “Yeah, that about sums it up. You can add that the device planted in the shuttles was designed to cause damage and injury, but not to destroy the ship. Terrorist tactic, by definition and practice.”
