Drake walked in, responding to the earlier page. His gaze remained fixed on his PaDD as he said simply “I’ll assume, for once, I am not the loudmouth being ejected.” He looked over and over the test results. “Administer IV bicarbonate, as well as calcium, and insulin combined with 50% dextrose. Heart problems, high potassium, high white count…” He looked up at the other doctors. “Hyperkalemia. In short” he turned to the Ambassador. “you’re not a hypochondriac. Or maybe you are, just a sick one.” He returned his gaze to his colleagues. “Unless someone has a better explanation for all her symptoms and plans for treatment.”

-Lt Cmdr Drake Marshall, M.D.

Solal arrived around the same time as Marshall, also responding to the earlier page. He spent a few moments reading the file. “High CO2 in the blood can also indicate kidney trouble. We should run a kidney test to be sure the kidneys are functioning appropriately. Run a blood glucose test before giving the insulin.” He glanced at Marshall, “Was the existence of her illness in question?”

Alexis was drawing blood as they entered and finished by drawing an extra vial. She passed them off to Nurse Shar. “Have the lab run all the tests Doctirs Drake and Solal have ordered. Get someone to bring the requested IV medications along with IV saline as well.” She turned back to the two doctors as she stepped back. The ambassador was their patient. She agreed with both assessments.

Shar took the vials, noted the orders and headed to drop them off at the lab. On her way, she ordered a medic standing on the outside of the situation to deliver the IV meds and saline to the doctors immediately.

She looked through the Ambassador’s medical file and walked out to Walker. “The aide mentioned rescue medication, but no such thing is listed in her medical file. From what was transferred to us or her initial exam. What medication?”

Kane, AMO

At that, the man turned and walked towards the exit, “Some doctors you are. Don’t even know how to take a proper history, or even ask the one in charge of her medication, but please, by all means, do what you want. I know when I am not needed, but do make sure her potassium levels don’t drop too far. That would be very dangerous for your careers, since that is all you seem to care about.”

“Except you were the one who prevented us from even getting to that point,” Brad spoke up. He’d monitored what had passed for an intake exam, and the question of current medications hadn’t even been reached before he’d dropped off what Brad was now thinking of as the first attempted murder weapon and headed to the bar.

Unless forcibly stopped, he left the sickbay muttering under his breath about incompetence of Starfleet Doctors and lack of decorum.

Security had arrived at that point and Alexis, meeting their gaze, waved toward the door for them to block it. “Potassium? Your Ambassador’s Potassium level is so high it is toxic and killing her, slowly and painfully. There is no prescription anywhere, from Earth or Gossaneen III. Nor did she report it when Doctors Marshall and Solal did her medical history and intake physical. That means that a reputable and trained doctor did not perscribe it to her. Perhaps she is not aware that an actual doctor did not perscripe whatever it is that she has been taking.” As she spoke slowly and with small words and a tone that said she was yrying to explain a complex concept to a child, Alexis advanced on him. “It must have been an actual charlatan that gave it to her, or since you are the professed keeper of the medication, perhaps you decided all on your own to poison her. I am inclined to request one of her guards join our security in keeping an eye on you until your government from Gossaneen III can arrive and have you investigated. I am of the mind that Ambassador Salin Mero is in danger and needs protecting. Hand over whatever and everything you have been administering to her immediately.”

Kane, AMO

The tattooed Kane watched the exchange with a look of glee. “Maaaaaaannn, I’d do what she says. One, withholding medical information to the detriment of a patient is actually a crime. And two, I got ten strips of latinum that says if you don’t comply she’s gonna pick you up by your ankles and shake it out of you.”

Kane, R&D

“And both of us will help hold you still and let her,” Brad replied, trying to exude an air of menace. “Would it be inaccurate to say that in addition to the self-professed keeper of her medication, you’ve also been the one responsible for making her prior medical appointments? Perhaps steering her to those willing to go along with your accusations of hypochondria on her part and not look too deeply into her issues?”

Cmdr. Dr. Brad Walker
Chief of Staff

Kane looked at the Ambassador’s guards and said softly “Now see, this is the point I would be standing next to that guy. Because if he is responsible or has allowed for something untowards to happen to your boss, I would really want to be seen as being on her side right about now.”

Kane, R&D

The medic brought over the requested infusion med. “Bicarb, calcium and 50/50 insulin and dextrose.”

It didn’t take long for the tests results to come back and the kidney function tests showed impairment resulting in a build up of wastes in the kidneys and an inability to use the potassium better. The Ambassador indeed had hyperkalemia.

Mero was listening to everything going on but had so little energy at the moment. Still, she forced her eyes open and turned her head to find her aide. “Su’en? Is it true?” She shifted her gaze to Alexis. “Is this why you wouldn’t let me have the banana? Has it been hurting me? Have other things I’ve been eating or drinking hurting me?” She thought of her morning tea and was now worried. But none of it made sense!

~Mischief Maker

Su’en stared at everyone for a moment before lurching at Mero with his hands outstretched. Luckily the guards were there to catch the man before he got any closer and physically restrained him. The first reached into one of the pockets of the advisior’s cloak and pulled out a vial of pills, a sachet of herbs, and a small vial of brownish liquid.

“Of course I did it you banana waffled twit! You were going to be recalled back to the capital and for what? To be married off? To get some other high functionary duty? Jobs I should have had! I have been doing your paperwork and cleaning up your messes for years now, making you look like the proverbial golden child so you would keep this appointment!”

He caught his breath and, rather than watching what he was saying, continued his impromptu confession, “You only have yourself to blame! You could have kept your head down and done what you were told. Smile, nod, wave your little hand, and let me take care of things, but no you had to get ambition! You know what we have built here? What -I- have built here? Do you know how much real earth coffee is worth?”
