Alexis followed the last of the medical staff out and down to secondary sickbay. She entered and picked up a tricorder, moving to the first occupied biobed. “What’s our triage status?” she asked of whoever could provide the answer. Once they had everyone settled here, she would talk to Marshall and Solal.

With Primary Sickbay being out of out, an emergency transport was automatically diverted to Secondary Sickbay. =/\=Incoming emergency transport. ICU.=/\=

Alexis turned, leaving the patient to another doctor and walked into the ICU as the lights began to swirl and turned on the nearest biobed.

In the ICU area, the transporter deposited Solomon Kane and the Kelakgh Ambassador, who was clearly unconscious.

Alexis didn’t even skip a beat at the sight of her wildly tattooed husband with an unconscious ambassador. =/\=Doctors Solal and Marshall report to secondary ICU for the Kelakgh Ambassador.=/\=

As they finished materializing she waved to two other medics, “Get her to a biobed.” Turning to Kane, “What happened?” As they set her down she started taking scans.

OOC: Is she wearing her breathing mask. I know she had it off in her quarters.

Kane, AMO

“She passed out in her quarters. Her oxygen levels had dropped from 102% to 98% for her normal and she was showing the same arrhythmia seen in Primary Sickbay. She was gasping slightly for breath as her nitrogen levels had also dropped. But she was in her own atmosphere, so her issues here are respiratory. Something is inhibiting her ability to absorb air. Has anyone done a respiratory work up?”

This is why Alexis hated being not on the direct medical team. She had been on her way to discuss with Walker, Marshall, and Solal when the power cycled out. “No, she left sickbay before they could complete a full work-up.” She grabbed a tricorder and started scanning her lungs. “Prep a bronchiodilater to help ease her breathing.” She held off giving it until she had completed a scan to make sure it wouldn’t cause more distress.

The situation and patients were becoming more and more stable as minutes passed by. Bryn walked through the bio beds, a PaDD in one hand that she made notes on concerning care, treatments, outcomes and supplies. Her eyes followed the Kane couple and she recognized the Ambassador. Arriving next to them a moment later. “Dr Kane, may I be of assistance?”

Alexis turned to the head nurse. “I want all the results from her earlier exam up on the board, as well as her medical records. We need a full respiratory work-up. Everyone grab a breathing mask. We’re going to change the environment in here to her natural one.”

Once everyone had a mask, Alexis ordered GALEN to adjust the environmental controls around the Ambassador’s ICU room.

The previously gathered information appeared on the main display:

Medical History: https://www.star-fleet.com/core/stf3/ogawa/posts/195203/
Tests to Date: https://www.star-fleet.com/core/stf3/ogawa/posts/211464/

Scans and tests of Mero’s lungs showed they were structurally intact (as per the Chest CT), but an Arterial Blood Gas (ABG) showed that the Kelakgh’s blood pH had actually dropped and was slightly more acidic than it should be. There seemed to be a higher concentration of carbon dioxide in the blood. This was likely the cause of the arrhythmia, but what was causing the pH and CO2 imbalance was not clear from her respiratory system.

Her diaphragm seemed to be working less than optimal, but given her significant fatigue as of late, was not unexpected.

Salin’s eyes fluttered and she murmured.

Brad walked into the secondary sickbay and stood outside the ICU suite, observing the scans. Excess CO2? Well, that certainly lent credence to the sabotaged rebreather theory.

He pouted. Now security was going to have to get involved.

Cmdr. Dr. Brad Walker
Chief of Staff

Something wasn’t right. Either her rebreather was malfunctioning or there was Hyperkalemia. Alexis stepped up to the bed and began working with the respirator to help even out her breathing. If needs be she would intubate to make sure her lungs worked fully. Right now she simply turned on the basic biosupports of the bed. Alexis set a hand on the Ambassadors shoulders. “Relax you are going to be fine.”

Kane stepped back and let Alexis and Walker take charge of the patient, but he wasn’t done. He took the Ambassador’s rebreather and began scanning it, detailing it. He paid close attention to everything. Particularly the scrubbers that made the air she breathed what she needed.

About this time the Su’en and the two guards stormed into the sickbay, the little advisor looking for a fight. “Unhand her!,” he bellowed, as much as he is able to bellow. “Guards! Assume your stations and do not allow these charlatans to assassinate our ambassador!”

Alexis rolled her eyes. Backwards primitive, self important…and the mental tirade was gone in exchange for the patient.

The guards, looking quite dumbfounded at the escalation in his temper on the walked slowly towards the biobed but didn’t get in the way, looking back and forth between the two bosses, not really sure what to do.

Alexis glanced at guards and when they stopped out of the way she dismissed them from her mind. It was their job, as long as they didn’t stop her from doing hers.

Su’en folded his arms, “Well? Which one of you fried eggheads wants to tell me what the meaning of this is, why she wasn’t just given her rescue medication, and what your plan is to stabilize and return her to your quarters? You better believe your Captain will hear about this, as will the Senate!”

The female Kane glanced up and met Walker’s gaze. Did he really want her to answer the aide? She was AMO for a reason. Diplomacy was not within her job skills.

The noise drew Salin’s attention, though she was still not quite with it. Her body felt so tired and it was hard to open her eyes. “Wha— wha’s happening?” she said, breathing heavily.

~Mischief Maker

“Relax Ambassador. You are in sickbay. We are going to take care of you. Just focus on breathing.” Alexis was not the most comforting of people and her voice carried more authority than empathy, but in a way that could be more comforting than compassion.

Kane didn’t look up. He simply said “GALEN, call security and have then escort this loudmouth out of here and revoke access to him except as a patient.” He jerked his head at the guards and said “You can stay as long as you aren’t being an a$$hole like your boy there.”

Kane, R&D

Drake walked in, responding to the earlier page. His gaze remained fixed on his PaDD as he said simply “I’ll assume, for once, I am not the loudmouth being ejected.” He looked over and over the test results. “Administer IV bicarbonate, as well as calcium, and insulin combined with 50% dextrose. Heart problems, high potassium, high white count…” He looked up at the other doctors. “Hyperkalemia. In short” he turned to the Ambassador. “you’re not a hypochondriac. Or maybe you are, just a sick one.” He returned his gaze to his colleagues. “Unless someone has a better explanation for all her symptoms and plans for treatment.”

-Lt Cmdr Drake Marshall, M.D.

Solal arrived around the same time as Marshall, also responding to the earlier page. He spent a few moments reading the file. “High CO2 in the blood can also indicate kidney trouble. We should run a kidney test to be sure the kidneys are functioning appropriately. Run a blood glucose test before giving the insulin.” He glanced at Marshall, “Was the existence of her illness in question?”

~ Dr Solal, immunology

Alexis was drawing blood as they entered and finished by drawing an extra vial. She passed them off to Nurse Shar. “Have the lab run all the tests Doctirs Drake and Solal have ordered. Get someone to bring the requested IV medications along with IV saline as well.” She turned back to the two doctors as she stepped back. The ambassador was their patient. She agreed with both assessments.

She looked through the Ambassador’s medical file and walked out to Walker. “The aide mentioned rescue medication, but no such thing is listed in her medical file. From what was transferred to us or her initial exam. What medication?”

Kane, AMO

At that, the man turned and walked towards the exit, “Some doctors you are. Don’t even know how to take a proper history, or even ask the one in charge of her medication, but please, by all means, do what you want. I know when I am not needed, but do make sure her potassium levels don’t drop too far. That would be very dangerous for your careers, since that is all you seem to care about.”

Unless forcibly stopped, he left the sickbay muttering under his breath about incompetence of Starfleet Doctors and lack of decorum.
