“A lot of things feel wrong right now with my promotion. That won’t last forever, and I know it’s a lot of because what happened with Alexis’ mother and then what happened with me later in Sickbay with Frigga, but…” Dira blew out a breath and gazed at him, her black eyes intense. “In some ways the chaos of today feels utterly normal, but that doesn’t make it okay for me to just sweep this moment under the carpets. I’ve worked too damn hard to get to this place in my career to just brush it aside. But to celebrate today feels… well, I don’t have the energy or the inclination. So, when were both a bit more settled, I’m going to trust to you read the situation and nudge me, and that’s when we celebrate. Even if it’s just a really simple thing and you and I open a bottle of something sparkly and toast that fact that yep, we made it to this point and deserve to be proud of it. Does that makes sense and sound doable?”

“Done and done.” Royal said with a firm nod. “We will make that happen. But for now, we will muddle our way to firmer ground. And just so you know… thats a good perspective for you to take from where I am sitting. And I think the crew will appreciate it as well.”

Dira nodded slowly. “I hope you’re right. And they’ve seemingly given me grace to figure things out when I first arrived, chaotic situation that that was, so I guess it’s not too much to expect them to do so for me now.”

She sat back in her chair and took a moment to cast her gaze around the lounge. She was trying to wrap her mind around the fact that this was her ship now, her crew. “I think I’m also going to need a few days for this all to sink in properly. Hopefully that happens sooner rather than later.” She avoided speakigng aloud her thought that it hopefully was before the next crisis.
