The medical scanner would show that Achilleas had a skull fracture on the back of his head, a hematoma and brain swelling, as well as a ruptured C3 vertebrae. He wasn’t in good condition at all.

CSO Petrakos

Drake’s heartbeat began to thunder in his ears. He responded =/\=Copy.=/\=

As soon as Solal was out of the way the two medical officers standing by knelt and together they rolled Petrakos and slipped the stretcher under him. “Get him into surgical suite 2-A. Jet’nal get images and scans and load them to the screen in the surgical scrub room.”

Kane, AMO

Drake stormed into the scrub room and examined all the imaging that had so far been done. “Fracture, hematoma, concussion, ruptured vertebrae. This is fixable.” As he scrubbed up he checked and rechecked the data, looking for anything he had missed. “I’m going to try to repair the ruptured disc primarily. But if that proves impossible, we need to be prepared with a graft of artificial bone. We’ll do what we can for the nervous structures and replace the bone.”

Achilleas’ heartrate was elevated, blood oxygen levels were dropping, pulse was weak and thready. The site of the fracture was on the lower side of the back of his head while the hematoma was likewise at the impact site.

CSO Petrakos

An NE doctor Sindre was assisting with the surgery. “Everything is ready, Doctor Marshall,” said the NE. “The pressure needs to be relieved from the area around the brain, as well. Might improve the vitals.”

Drake pushed past Dr Sindre. He hadn’t said anything shocking, but Drake remained focused on the spinal damage because it was significantly more complicated than placing a shunt to relieve intracranial pressure. A nurse offered an apologetic look as Drake moved on. He looked over the situation for a moment before holding out a hand and saying “Exoscalpel.” He made a small incision and went through the procedure to place a shunt.

The assisting doctor gave Marshall the exoscalpel. Once the shunt was properly placed it was time to move on to the next part of the surgery.

The shunt worked its magic and the intracranial pressure was relieved. Achilleas’ vitals improved as the pressure on his brain diminished.

CSO Petrakos

Next Drake turned his focus to the spine. He made an incision for access and evaluated the damage both visually and with a scan.

The damage was extensive. Work on the spine was intense and delicate. It only took one wrong move to create infinitely bigger problems. Drake moved slowly and carefully. The jumbled wires of the spinal cord had to be contained and kept in order. It took Like puzzle pieces, he fit the bone back together. What seemed like a long time ago Drake had done this kind of operation before. Cases like this were few, and that was for the better. Hours passed in tense silence as Drake worked on a scientist who was at once familiar and completely unknown. He must’ve known Petrakos from somewhere, some meeting they both went to. Maybe not. As he closed the surgical site, he checked the time 9 hours and 34 minutes. Drake walked toward the door, turning back to say “Turf him to recovery. If there’s a single problem, I’m the first call. Any time of day or night.”
