Sinclair stepped on the turbo lift and said “Bridge.” The lift began to move and Sinclair looked at the PaDD in his hand… and then bounced 8nto the wall as the lift screeched to a halt. The lights flickered and went out and then the emergency lighting activated. He looked around and waited a moment before saying “Computer, why has the lift stopped?” =/\= A malfunction has occurred in the rotary drive module. Engineering has been notified and Security alerted to an entrapment. =/\= Sinclair sighed and said =/\= Cancel Security alert. =/\= and the computer chirped. *No yse pulling them away for something trivial. He tapped his commbadge. =/\= XO to Engineering. I’m stuck in the forward turbolift between decks eight and nine. Please advise. =/\=Sinclair, XO
Navale was the engineer assigned for on-call that day. The alert from GALEN came through with a report of a malfunction. She took a look at the display and noted where it had stopped. =/\=This is Lt Huzzen. I am on my Cmdr. Is anyone hurt?=/\= Huzzen responded as she entered the parts storage and grabbed replacements for any part that might be affected by a rotary drive malfunction. Then she hoisted her bag and took off for the closest lift, getting out on Deck 8 and making her way to the access junction.

=/\= Nothing hurt but my pride, Lieutenant. Guess I shouldn’t have had that extra helping of turkey last night at dinner. =/\= came the response from the XO, followed by a chuckle. =/\= I’m the only one in here. =/\=
Sinclair, XO
There was a brief chuckle. =/\=Alright, Cmdr. Be there in a ahkpo.=/\=
A few short minutes later there were distinct sounds from above the Turbo lift. Then the whir of some tool and a groan the access plate lifted and the Coridanite woman hung her head down into the space and grinned at Sinclair from her semi upside-down position. “Well Cmdr,” she turned her head and spotted him. Ju-zha that man was big and all muscle. “The lift is stuck in the worst position. I can open the doors, but there isn’t enough room to squeeze out on either deck. So, unless you want to climb, I’ll have you out, hopefully in a few minutes.”
Huzzen, eng
Sinclair looked up and smiled. “Weirdest. Jack-in-the-box. EVER.” and he laughed. “Whatever you need, Lieutenant. I can climb or wait, up to you.”
Sinclair, XO
Navale grinned, “Well if you climb out, how am I supposed to impress the ship’s XO with how fast and accurate I am?” She laughed as she disappeared and there was rattling as the tools in her bag were jostled as she moved.
Huzzen climbed down and then inched and slid her way around the lift to get to the access panel. “What is a jack-in-the-box?” She called back. There was a whirring as she disconnected the bolts. A muttered explitive of disbelief, which was quickly silenced, as she looked at the problem.
Huzzen, eng
“Problem, Lieutenant? That didn’t sound like a good kind of cussing.” the XO asked with a chuckle. If he was being honest with himself, the whole situation was kind of funny.
Sinclair, XO
“Well, umm a problem, but I can fix it. I just can’t believe what I’m seeing. There is gonna be a shudder as I engage the brake clamps.” She reached in and input the control and the lift shuddered as a loud magnetic clang sounded. “Someone left their lunch in here and it melted on the rotary drive.” There was more whirring and banging and a sudden shuddered “Ugh…disgusting…”
Hussen, eng
Sinclair’s brows raised in surprise and he said “Someone’s lunch? Um, I’m no engineer; but isn’t taking your lunchbreak on top of a turbo lift a bit… you know… stupid?”
Sinclair, XO
Navale made a sound somewhere between amusement and derision. “Extremely. I can hope .... that it was in the … oofff … maintenance bay when it happened. Ha! Got it. Most likely, whoever it belonged to was trying … to get off shift early … so worked and ate. Probably hid it when they almost got caught.”
Sinclair could hear rumagings and scrapping inside the walls. Then the sound of high powered suction followed by compressed air. “I’m surprised no one complained of the smell yet.”
Huzzen, eng
“Kudos to Operations for keeping the crew spaces clean and smelling good, I guess.” and he chuckled. “Any idea who would have screwed this up? Not looking to write anyone up, but I think a teaching lesson is in order.”
Sinclair, XO
“Well…” There was a couple of clattered clings, “No nonono ah caught it.” Navale shoved the tool securely into her belt and then started pulling out the corroded cabling. “Not really sure, Cmdr. I’ve only been on board a couple of weeks. The only person I have really gotten to know in engineering so far is Lt Maria. I am certainly going to look up the maintenance logs for this lift though and report it to her.” She coiled and shoved the cabling into her bag and then connected the new to the first port. It was quick work to weave it into place and attach the other end to the port on the new rotary drive. “Alright Cmdr let me know if the main power switched back on in there.” She went through and ran the diagnostic and start up sequence.
The lights in the lift flashed from emergency lighting to regular power and the emergency flashing stopped.
Huzzen, eng
“Ah, the joys of non-flashing lights in an enclosed space. It’s the small joys in life, really, that make it worth living.” Sinclair said with a laugh. He looked at the display panel and said “All systems are rebooting. Nicely done, Lieutenant.”
Sinclair, XO
