“No change,” Solal said again after checking the results. He hugged Achilleas for precisely twenty seconds and then let him go, and checked the results. “No change.” He looked at Achilleas, “So when do you think it will change?”

~ Solal

After a moment of pondering Achilleas simply shrugged. “I think either your heart rate will go up in frustration if you try to force a result or it’ll start going down if you relax and try to enjoy the experience. I’m guessing that it will be around the two to three minute mark though.”

CSO Petrakos

“Getting frustrated would require a human experience of emotions and a deeper caring of whether or not we produce a result.” Solal replied with a shrug. “I hope you don’t plan to do ten second intervals all the way to two or three minutes.”

“No, no, of course not!” Achilleas exclaimed as he totally did plan on doing that. “I guess we can do a minute next and then increase by thirty seconds for each following iteration.” He shook his arms and stretched his back in preparation before he latched on to Solal again and started counting out sixty seconds. When time was up he sighed in contentment and released his test subject.

“That would be much more efficient,” Solal said. Achilleas hugged him, again, and Solal did seem to relax a little tiny bit, just before Achilleas let go. But when Solal looked at the results he said “It dropped one point.” Then he hugged Achilleas for sixty seconds and looked at the results. “No change this time.”

“We got a difference once so that lends some credence to the theory!” Achilleas said with excitement at the progress of the experiment. He would have been happy even if the results were inconclusive because of hugs but the scientist in him was filled with motivation to see this through to the end. “Now we just need to keep going and verify the results, if it was a fluke or a reproduceable outcome.” With some hope and expectations he hugged Solal again and counted for a minute and thirty before letting go.
