She wanted to back out and in reality all she would have had to do was message Sinclair and ask to try another evening. Dira could have given almost any excuse and it would have actually be true, but she also knew that right now she needed to be present around the crew as they worked through this transition. So even if she wasn’t in the mental space to be social, Dira could suck it up because in actual fact she really did want to get to know this man who would be her support and command partner.Having arrived only a minute ago, Dira was still in uniform but her jacket was off and draped on the back of her chair. She sipped on a glass of water while she waited to Sinclair to arrive.

Sinclair was two minutes late, also still in uniform, but when he walked in he looked around for the Captain and smiled and made his way over; pausing once or twice to talk to someone that introduced themselves to the new XO. Finally taking a seat, he exhaled and said “Aye, but they dunnae tell ya ‘but the loads of reports that get heaped on ya the first few days, do they?” and he chuckled. “If they did, I’m guessin’ Command School’d be a lot less crowded.”

Her ebony eyes glittered. “Not for the feint of heart, that’s for sure. Try taking up your new post when your ship was nearly torn apart escaping a subspace bubble and was so badly damaged Command thought ‘hey, why don’t we give them a new one? They can hang out on Starbase for bit while we get it to them, can’t they?’” Dira said with a laugh. She folded her arms on the table. “The reports that had to be done reconciling the ship and crew were intense, but we were at Starbase, so we had plenty of time to do them. Well, except for the hallucinogenic fungus episode.” She tilted her head up, pondering. “You know, I do miss Queen Willow.” It still amused her even though it had been quite awhile ago, but there hadn’t been a better chance to get to know the crew than seeing how everyone operated in a crisis. Well, the ones were had the capacity to act, of course.

Royal grinned and said “I read the After-Action reports on that one. Sounds like a party, for sure.” with a soft laugh. A glass of ice tea was brought over and he nodded his thanks. He looked back at Myqian and said “So, Skipper? How’s the new chair fitting ya? Or are we still in tha ‘What the bloody hell is happenin’?!’ phase?” and he gave her a friendly smile.

While the lounge did have an on-duty bartender, there was no kitchen and the crew had replicators to grab food from. Dira rose and gestured with her head. “Come on, let’s grab food,” she said.
As they wandered over, she replied, “It’s fine. I mean, I’ve sat in it before and all, but then and this last week it always felt like I was just keeping it warm for the Captain. Now that person is me, so I’m still wrapping my head around it.”
“Oskoid salad with walnuts and jabraneezi soup,” she told the replicator. Her dinner simmered into existence and she stepped to the side so he could order.

“Haggis with neeps and tatties.” he said and waited a moment as the lights coalesced into his food. He nodded back to the table and followed her back, waiting for her to sit before taking his seat. As he unrolled jos silverware from his napkin, he said “So. I’m guessin’ ya had a chance to look at my file. Anything ya wanna talk about?”
Sinclair, XO
Retrieving her spoon, Dira stirred the bright orange soup, and as she did, whatever was underneath the surface layer was being mixed in, turning the whole thing a paler yellow-orange. “Oh, I have many. But some have answers I’m sure will depend on how well we know each other,” she said with a slight grin.
“But let’s start with something easy. Easier, perhaps? You’ve gone back and forth between positions of protection and mental health. I’m not going to ask you if you have a preference, but do you find yourself leaning towards one more heavily than the other?”
Captain Myqian, CO
He nodded and said “I’ve always leaned to Security, but my perspective on the overall discipline is not standard.” He took a bite and chewed slowly as he thought over the matter. Taking a drink, he said “I believe tha’ in order ta have a cohesive and functional crew, one hasta ensure that that goal is founded in the individual. Security innae a solitary effort. Its a combination of design, policy, implementation, and the desire of those under the policy to wanna adhere ta it. For that ta ‘appen, the individual hasta be in a mindset and emotional state ta want to be a part of the effort. In short, I know- too late-” and he chuckled, “- in short Security starts in the mind and emotions of rhe individuals under its protection. If a Security Chief has a greater than average understanding of sociology, interpersonal communication, psychology… than they’ll be much better equipped to deal with issues as they arise… and they will better suited to creating a securoty plan tha’ is tailored to their specific environment; thus contributing to an environment that has less infractions, less conflict, and thus less need for wnforcement and more opportunities for mediation and mitigation of risk.” He grinned and then added “At least, thats what I said in my doctoral defense.” and he laughed.
