Maria watched as the captain showed her the options. She nodded and seemed to be taking note. After it all she bit her lip a bit and let out a breath. “Their out of my area of expertise… but I will do my best. I’m a bit more use to PADDs but only in their use… I’m sure in time I will learn.” She said somewhat seemingly spacing out as she sorted theough the new information mentally. “That mostly makes sense. I will have to gather my department first and work with everyone.” She nodded still a little dazed

Myqian offered her a warm smile. “You can access all of this from PADDs as well while you’re on the ship. Highly portable all told.” She took a chance and rested her hand on the CE’s shoulder, her ink black eyes gazing at her intently. “One step at a time, Maria,” she said gently. “This first day is all about checking off your boarding boxes and settling into your office and quarters. But really, all that takes time too. No one is expecting you to have all this down perfectly today, or even next week. Allow it to be the process it is.”

Maria shook her head a few times and then nodded. “I will do my best Captain.” She gave a smile and looked up to Myqian. “Thank you.” She said softly. Then unpredictably Maria reached up and hugged the captain.

It was unexpected and yet Dira was unabashedly herself in many regards, so she returned the embrace, exuding a tangible feeling of warmth. “You’re welcome.”

When she let go, Myqian smiled. “I know it’s all very overwhelming but if I can offer you any advice, it would be to soak this time all in, Maria. This new experience is a first for you. It’s special. And even when it’s complicated and difficult, you’re still learning so much. This is an amazing time in your life, in your career. mKe sure you take the time to experience it.”

Maria let go and pulled back not sure what had come over her, though her face was beet red. She showed embarassment as well as relief that she had not been admonished for her sudden and somewhat personal gesture. Though she smiled and nodded. “Yes ma’am I will do so. I know that like everything else it will just take time I have no doubt I am in good hands, and hace a chance to learn alot.”

The captain was very aware of Maria’s state but that just made her want to be even more reassuring. “We all do,” Dira said with a grin. “While I’ve bene on this ship quite awhile, I’m new to the captain’s seat myself. We’re all just finding our way through changes, so I assure you you are most definitely not alone.”

Maria nodded. “I had heard the scuttlebutt between two officers as I was on the way here. It is unexpected, but all we can do is make the best of what we have.” She paused and gave the captain a big smile. “It may not be worth much, but I believe in you. I have a feeling you will propel us further into excellence now we just have to do our part and support you captain.”

That earned Maria a warm smile. “Thank you, Lieutenant.” The crew had always been at best when tackling something together, and if their new CE understood that already, then that boded very well indeed.

Maria shook her head. “No ma’am I don’t. Thank you.” She said as she walked back around the desk. She then looked at the captain. “If you don’t need anything else from me ma’am I should probably go take stock of my department.”

Myqian nodded. “By all means. Go get settled in and do your other checkins as well. And if there is anything you need, please don’t hesitate to ask. I mean that too.” She gestured with her head to the door. “Have a great rest of your day, Maria.”
