Sinclair didn’t sit, but picked up the coffee with a nod of thanks and said “I get that a lot.” with a small chuckle. He took a sip and then slid his fingers through the handle and gripped the mug. “Sickbay is impressive, Doctor. Remarkable, even. I am impressed. I thought the medical suite on the Saracen was top -of-the-line,but this puts it to shame.”

Brad nodded. “I would have killed for a suite like a Pendragon’s 20 years ago when I first became a CMO on the old Agamemnon, not that a Phoenix-class sickbay was anything to sneeze at, or even the Maverick-class Vanguard that replaced her. But if you think this is impressive, you should see Dr. Bonner’s main haunt on Deck 12. It’s smaller than this suite, but it still puts a main Fleet ship’s Sickbay to shame.”

Secondary sickbay really was amazing. Most of the really impressive upgrades were here in primary sickbay, but down on deck 12 really was nothing to scoff at. Alexis liked her bay and was very proud of it.

That got Alexis’s attention. The Saracen. She studied him as she thought back through all her conversations with Hannah. Had she ever mentioned a Royal Sinclair? Not that she recalled. His last medical check was from Medical command, maybe they weren’t there on board at the same time. Hmm she might ask Hannah about it later.

Bonner, AMO

“I’ll say, you seem a little on the younger side for an XO,” Brad said, hopefully in a neutral tone, but a hint of skepticism still bled through.

Alexis looked at Sinclair, her head tipping to the side and analyzing him like a specimen. Was he young for an XO? Alexis was young for an AMO. She was the youngest ever actually, for the flag medical ship of the fleet. So young wasn’t a bad thing, right? Did Walker think her being young was bad? Then why did he let her take back over the position? Alexis gave a mental shrug, his reasons were his own. She did her job, that’s all that mattered.

Sinclair smiled and as the brogue-accented words rolled out, it was obvious he caught the implication. “Well, you’re nae the first to say somethin’ along those lines, Doctor. Heard it my first time as a Security Chief. Heard it when I was first made a Counselor. Heard it again at my doctoral defenses; and then again when I was made Chief Tactical Officer of the Saracen. And aye, this is ma first time as an XO. But I’ve served under some of the best Execs in Star Fleet, and I’ve learned a lot from them. And besides… we all gotta start somewhere, right? You weren’t always a CMO or Chief of Staff, now were ya?” The smile never left his face, nor did his tone convey anything other than a sense of humor about the whole thing.

Alexis ran his statement back through her head. She heard right, three different departments and chief of those departments. Quite the accomplishments.

Bonner, AMO

Brad smiled back. “No, I had two ships blown out from under me before I got to run a medical department,” he said. “As an aside, horrible experience, I do not recommend it.”

“I’ll keep that in mind.” Sinclair said with a slight smile.

He reflected briefly on the end of the old Owie, and how that had very nearly become three ships blown out from under him.

“I will say you definitely seem well-rounded. What’s your doctorate in?”

“First is Counseling Psychology with an emphasis on Conflict Mediation. Second is Xeno-Sociology. My thesis was centered on developing inter-species dialogues without the basis an inherent and complimentary moral and ethical framework.” He sipped his coffee and then said “If ya like, Doctor, I can forward ya my resume and personnel file.” and he chuckled.
