Royal stared at her a moment and nodded slowly. “Well… as the XO, I think I have the need to know the background there. Would you be averse to allowing me to request the access? And if the perceived favoritism between you and Kane is causing Almikaz hard feelings, maybe I can step in and be a buffer. Give you some professional space from Kane while trying to bridge that gap between him and her. Yes, its a deflection of sorts of course… but with your new role and responsibilities, massaging relationships like that may be too time consuming.”

Myqian sighed and nodded. “The irony is that the last time I found myself stuck in the middle of a situation that compromised me, I passed the decision to Taylor. I’m apparently the Captain now, so I need to be able to handle these sorts of situations, but I think you’re right with this one. My involvement just muddies it more because I’ve also been doing Kane’s therapy sessions, since I opted to maintain my license for the time being.” She tipped her head back and up and chuckled. “I don’t even know how that works now.” She turned her head towards Royal. “But yes, since the CO, XO and Chief of Psychiatry are the only ones allowed access to the classified portions of his file, you will be given access.”

Royal nodded and said “Alright, I think that will help a great deal. So what else ahould I take on as a priority? And are we going to have a Command staff meeting? Or should I schedule one-on-ones with the Department Heads?”

Decisions. Ones that were hers to make, to guide. It was so surreal! “We recently had a senior staff briefing about the new assignment but we are supposed to have a new Chief Engineer assigned soon. It might be worth waiting to get everyone together till we have all our positions sorted out and then make sure we’re on the same age as a team. I do think we should go ahead and have a meeting with us both and Walker. And beyond that I think you’re free to meet with the senior staff as you like.”

“On a couple personal notes, given that this was a rather suddenly thing, I’ll deal with my office but I’m going to need a day to get my quarters in order before you can move in. I’ve been here three years, after all. So it might be easier if you take one of the guest quarters for a night or two.”

Royal chuckled and waved off the timeline. “Captain, do as you need to. I’m in no rush. And I’ll tell ya what. Until you have your office situated, I can work outta here or my temporary quarters, either way. Dunnae put yerself out. We have enough on our plates that we’ll manage best we can till things are sorted.”

She gave him a lopsided smile. “Alright then.” Dira was still processing Willow’s departure and she knew that all of this would likely hit much later.

Dira gazed at him for a moment, her dark eyes searching, debating. “The other thing is some disclosure. It’s no longer a secret that Lieutenant Haven and I are romantically involved. I share that as a courtesy should there be any concerns, but you should know that we’ve always been highly professional and no one even knew outside of a couple people I informed, including Talyor.” Her expression softened. “And the reality is, if it had not been for our relationship, for the deep bond we have, I can guarantee you I would be either dead or so far from this ship as to not be findable. Zoi is the reason I am here. For the record,” she said with a small smile. But in that tiny shift was a depth of care for the woman she had fallen in love with.

Sinclair looked at her for a long few moments and then said “Thank you for letting me know in advance. Any other relationships I need to be aware of prior to meeting the crew?” he asked. “Good or bad, that is. Other than the Almikaz - Kane issue, that is.”
