“Well Commander? What do you think?” the seated Efrosian female said to the pilot seated beside her. The pilot was a large, muscular human in the red uniform of Command officers. Outside the runabout, the USS Ogawa sat still in space awaiting their arrival. The pilot smiled and said “Aye, ma’am… she’s a beautiful ship. I’ve not seen any quite like her.”The woman, also dressed in a red Command uniform but with Admiral rank on her collar, grinned. “Too true. She is a beauty, thats for certain. I think you will fit in nice here, too.” The Commander smiled and said “I hope so, Admiral. I’m looking forward to the new role.”with that he banked the runabout around and activated the comms. =/\= Ogawa, this is runabout Drummond. Admiral Sret on board requesting an immediate meeting with Commander Myqian. Request permission to dock. =/\= A moment later a response came back. =/\= Drummond, this is the Ogawa. You are cleared for docking in Suttlebay Two. Welcome to Ogawa, Admiral. We look forward to your arrival. =/\=
The Admiral’s runabout slipped into the dock about fifteen minutes later and settled onto the deck. The hatch opened after it was powered down and the Efrosian Admiral stepped out and took a look around.
Sinclair and Admiral
There was nothing like an unexpected arrival from the brass to light a fire under people’s rears, but as the shuttle’s occupants appeared, they were met by the placid expression of a woman also in command red. Her mass of kinky curls was pulled up into a pouf at the back of her head and overall Myqian presented a tidy figure of average height. Her ebony eyes that marked one half of her heritage took in the Admiral and she came to attention. She didn’t salute but pressed a brown hand to her chest and bowed her head. “Admiral. Welcome to the Ogawa,” Dira said.
Commander Myqian, XO
Admiral Sret inclined her head and said “Thank you, Commander. And don’t fret, my trip here is brief. Some last minute details to hash out as a result of the change of command on board.” A figure stepped out of the hatch behind the Admiral, ducking under the low (to them) top of the opening. A human male, broad shouldered and with blonde hair cut more in the style of the Fleet Marines than Star Fleet, his blue eyes fixed on Myqian and he smiled. “Commander Myqian. Good to see you again.” he said in a thick brogue but with excellent diction. “Commander Royal Sinclair. We met at the Symposium on Inner-species Dialog and Cross-cultural Mediation. We spoke after your address on cultural bias identification and resolution. Its good to see you again.”
Sinclair
Dira smiled. “Likewise, Commander Sinclair. I didn’t realize you had also made the foray into Command. Must be something in the water,” she said with tiny smirk.
Confusion then etched itself into her face, accented by the softer Haliian brows ridges and bulges as she looked back at Sret. “Ma’am, I assume you have news for us?” She had used the words ‘change of command’, but that was not accurate to their current situation. Was Sinclair their new CO? That was possible, though she was expecting someone higher ranked, given the ship. It wasn’t unheard of for a Commanding Officer to be of commander rank though. And as much as she was curious, she managed to tamp down on her abilities, wishing she had had more time and thought of grabbing her headband that was sitting on her desk.
Commander Myqian, XO
The Admiral smed and said “News? Yes. But maybe we should go somewhere else for that discussion. Is the conference room available?” she asked.
Admiral Sret
Dira shifted her gaze away. “GALEN?”
=/\=Yes, Commander, how can I help you?=/\=
“Is the Conference Room currently available?=/\=
=/\=Indeed it is. Would you like me to book it for you.=/\=
“Yes, please. For one hour.”
=/\=The room is booked. Is there anything else I can do for you?=/\=
“No, that’ll be all GALEN. Thank you.”She turned back to the pair with a smile. “If you’ll follow me. And you’ll get a bit of a tour as well.”
Dira was the epitome of pleasant host, and able to show the ship off with pride. Behind her therapist’s mask that she had honed over her twenty year career as a psychiatrist, she was anxious to get off this deck, but she never let it show. It wasn’t the shuttlebay itself either, but as they stepped out into the corridor on Deck 9, they would cross into the A side of the deck and she needed to be there as little as possible.
Sinclair wasn’t an empath or telepath, but he was very observant… especially when it came to body language. He noted the subtle tenseness and ridgidity, but filed that away for later.
“Each of the three decks that the engineering hull connect with the primary hull have a reinforced access point that allow for containment. during emergencies,” she said as they approached an almost airlock-type entry. The door slid open at their arrival and they crossed into the primary hull. Dira maintained her pleasant demeanour as they moved along the deck to the nearest turbolift not too far from the arboretum.
The Admiral was enthralled, and Sinclair was happy to see the ship in person. In truth he had explored every bit of the ship in a holosimulator right after he got orders, but nothing beat the real thing.
As they went up to Deck 1, Dira gave them a quick run down on the facilities they had, the current crew complement and the like. The stuff visitors were usually curious about. There wasn’t as much on this deck besides the Bridge, her office, the Captain’s Ready Room and, of course, their destination.
Stepping in, she gestured for the Admiral to take a seat where she liked, giving Sinclair a curious smile.
Commander Myqian, XO
Sinclair smiled back and gave her a reassuring wink before taking a seat at the foot of the table.
The Admiral sat at the head of the table and said “Have a seat Commander.” and she gestured to the seat next to her.
“So… rough and weird few days, huh?” she said. “I want to say up front: I was not a fan of how Taylor’s transfer was handled. Far too quick and sudden for my liking… but I get why. And the need for her expertise was off the damn charts, so… that’s why it went down as it did. But that is done, and now we need to move things forward. So in that vein, I wanted to tell you myself… you will no longer be the Executive Officer of the Ogawa, Commander. I’m sorry, but that decision has been made. Commander Sinclair will be assuming that role effective immediately, and he will be reporting to the new CO. I’ll give you a moment to process, if you need.” The Admiral’s face was expressionless, and for some reason her emotions were like a far off whisper… the only input Myqian would get was one of relief.
Admiral Sret
Myqian studied the Efrosian, her expression was surprised, yes, but there was no sign of ill will. This sort of thing happened all the time. Much like Taylor’s reassignment. An yet… it rankled her. She had been the first officer here for three years and the ship needed stability. “Admiral, with all due respect, and far be it for me to question personnel assign-” She shook her head. “No, actually, I do question it.” She gave a brief and apologetic glance to Sinclair. “This is not a great time for a complete shake-up. Some ships on occasion need one, but the Ogawa does not. We’ve worked hard to try to integrate the old crew with all the new personnel after we got this new vessel and with Taylor’s reassignment, right now the ship needs someone in place who understands its unique needs. Reassign me if you must, but you do so with my objection,” she said, her dark eyes holding a thread of fierceness.
Commander Myqian, XO
The Admiral simply shrugged and said “Your objection is noted, Commander. But absolutely irrelevant. Not to mention, its really not a good look to object to your new XO…”
“Captain.”
