“Next time I will say non-vulcan of me… Does that satisfy your complaint?” Solal gave Achilleas a look, raised brow and all. “‘Logicing’ myself?”

“Yes, I am satisfied.” Achilleas said proudly as a preening bird. “Logicing, you know, convincing yourself with logic that a problem you have isn’t really a problem. Some might even use hypnotic suggestion for the same effect.”

Solal’s brow might as well have floated right off his face. “Convincing myself that a problem isn’t a problem? That is not logic. Nor does logic have anything to do with a pseudoscience like hypnosis.”

“Hey hypnosis is not a pseudoscience!” Achilleas a scientist objected. “It’s convincing yourself that there is no problem because emotion is a non-Vulcan attribute when you are clearly having that problem otherwise. How can you say you’re not using logic to convince yourself otherwise?”

“It was only for a few hours, and only because I needed to sleep.” Solal looked at Achilleas. “I’m okay.” Who was he convincing? Achilleas? Or himself? “I’m not going anywhere.” He would need to test his mind. Keep it from deteriorating further. He couldn’t let what Achilleas had suggested happen.

Achilleas inhaled a deep breath and let it out in a sigh. As much as he was afraid of losing Solal it was doing either of them any good to get worked up about a future that might not happen. He took in another deep breath and let it out. “I’m sorry.” He started to say with a quaver in his voice. He cleared his throat before continuing. “I’ve been assuming the worst for everything lately. I think I’ve got some valid concerns but we’re not there yet. This is why managing your health is important to me though. If we can delay, slow or stop the progress of your illness then I think everything should be done to do so.”

Solal shook his head. “Don’t be sorry. That’s what the counselors are for.” He gave Achilleas a pointed look… Yep, if Achilleas was going to try to make him get treatment more frequently, he was going to try to make Achilleas visit the ship’s psych services regularly. “We are slowing it as much as we can.”

The look was wasted on Achilleas because he wasn’t even looking at Solal. “I don’t know how counselors will help me not be sorry but okay.”
