Kane was clearing the last bit of debris away from the second crew member and he yelled “Ok, this one is ready to go!” and he began the slow, meticulous movement towards the two farthest crew. At seeing one beginning to stir, he said “Don’t move! Stay down. We’re coming to you. Just relax.” and he looked back to see if the stretcher team had cleared the second patient from the scene. He also saw Savel. “Savel! With me! I need help clearing this debris!”
Kane, CSO / R&D
Hearing his name, Savel joined Kane as fast as he could and started to assist him in clearing the wounded man, trying to not aggravate his condition.
Lieutenant Savel
He groaned and his eye fluttered open for a moment.
The second team made their way to Kane’s location as he moved on. Following the same procedure as the first team, they masked the downed crew member, stabilized her back and then transferred her to the stretcher. Hearing Kane call out to one of the other crew, they lifted the stretcher and moved out of the bay. The third team waited for Savel to enter the bay and join Kane and then moved into place, waiting at the last cleared location. Bonner did a fast scan of the next patient coming out. “This one’s better, Solal. Get her lungs cleared and stabilize her right ankle.”
Bonner, AMO
OOC: Cross posting and bump
IC:
Over the comms was heard the voice of Cmdr Haven, =/\= Medical emergency Arboretum entrance! =/\=Bonner
Solal finished stabilizing the patient with the hurt ankle, getting her on oxygen and stabilizing the ankle. Then he sent her off to sickbay. When the call came overhead he rushed off to answer it, with a quick nod to Bonner. They were already close to the arboretum, he could quickly respond.
~ Solal
Alexis waved Solal on. They were the closest response team, and he would get there fastest.
The third patient was carried out and Alexis waited for the fourth team to make their way in and wait at the last cleared point before turning her attention to Meklan and his report. “Mask seems to be doing the job, concussion here, and bruising on the anterior of the left hip.”
“Make sure she is stable and then get her moved.” Alexis turned her attention back to the shuttle bay.
“What happened?” the final downed man said as the debris was moved off of him. He coughed.
Commander Myqian, XO
“You cut yourself shaving. You should really be more careful.” Kane said as he and Savel extricated him. “Those electric shavers are no joke.” He ran the tricorder over the man and, seeing nothing life-threatening, he set a hand on the man’s shoulder and said “You’re gonna be fine. We’re gonna get you outta here and you’ll be good as new in few hours, ok? Just relax and let us do the heavy lifting, got it?” He looked back at the doorway and yelled “Stretcher team! Same Drill! Walk where we walk, don’t step anywhere else! C’mon, lets move!”
Kane, CSO / R&D
Alexis could hear him talking to the crewman and laughed lightly. Which earned her several perplexed looks from the people around her. It seemed preposterous but his humor seemed ro calm the man, so who was she to argue.
The fourth team made their way precisely and quickly from the last position to them. They set the stretcher down and same as before slipped a mask over his face, scanned for anything damaged that needed to be stabilized and then lifted him onto the stretcher. “Cmdr Kane, We’re ready to move him out.” Then in one smooth practiced motion they lifted the stretcher and headed back out of the shuttlebay, following the same path they took in.
Bonner, AMO
Kane looked around and then at Savel. “Ok. Now comes the hard part. Me and you, we’re gonna scan every bit of this debris. But first, I’m gonna look to make sure we don’t have any secondary devices. So I need yo to clear out while I do that. But don’t waste anytime waiting for me. I want you making a 3D model of the entire place. Every burn mark, scorched bit of metal… everything. Start at the door and wrok your way in slowly, got it? If you see anything that looks weird, you back out and call me. When I’m done with the search, I’ll do chemical composition analysis and then we can get Engineering down here to start with clean up and repairs. But right now, don’t let anyone else in here. Not even the Captain. Not till we’ve swept the area and have a clear record of everything, got it?”
Kane. CSO/R&D
Savel nodded, remaining calm. “Understood, Doctor.” He carefully walked back to the door while preparing his tricorder for 3D scans. Arrived at the door, he already began to scan the embrasure and the door on itself. I don’t think the door was much impacted, but we’re never sure, thought the Vulcan. After a moment, the tricorder ended its scan, and Savel took a look at the result.Lieutenant Savel
The last team had assessed and moved the last crewman to sickbay. Respiratory irritation and some light bruising. He was lucky. Alexis retained two of the teams standing by at the designated safe point and sent the rest to assist in sickbay. She stood back from the door to give room for safety and let Saval do his scans, but she had a clear view of the area.
To the left of the Shuttlebay doors was a small case that looked like regulation cargo but carried markers of the same chemicals used in the explosion. One of the other shuttles was also booby trapped in a similar fashion to the first. Upon examination, the chemicals are separate, but certain types of movement would trigger the drop of one chemical into the other to create an explosion. For the case, simple movement would suffice meaning it could have easily gone off due to the first explosion. Either the bomber had been careful to set it apart or he had planned on the second explosion that had never come. In the case of the shuttle bomb that remained, opening the door would trigger the device.
Security
Kane studied the devices with his tricorder and then closed it. He yelled back to the door “Savel! Secondary devices active! One in the other shuttle, one in the crate by the door! Put a transponder on that crate and beam it off the ship right away! I’m gonna try and disarm this one! Do not let anyone in here!” He moved slowly around the shuttle to the rear and then laid down on the deck. He slid himself under the shuttle between the nacelles until he found the Emergency Rescue hatch. He pulled out his tricorder, scanned the hatch to make sure it was clear. Seeing nothing, he tapped the controls and the hatch pulled back a few centimeters and slid to the side.
Alexis stood outside the door, speaking to the two teams. “Prepare for possible blast victims.” There was no telling if the blast would be worse, smaller, or comparable to the first one. When Kane disappeared under the shuttle she stopped breathing. She didn’t make a sound. He could probably hear her pulse over the ear piece. She was absolutely focused in ever sound, smell, and visual detail that might give warning that something had gone wrong.
Bonner, AMO
Kane slowly made his way inside, looking at every bit of the shuttle as he made his way carefully inside. He took off his boots and put them on the deck. He pulled an ocular display device from his tricorder, and put it on, setting it to record and transmit a live feed to the bridge. He made his way to the pilot’s chair and made sure the door was locked. He then moved up to the device and studied it for a long time.
The sideways motion of the door was the trigger, that was obvious. The combining of the two chemicals would start an rapid and violent esoteric reaction, and the confines of the container would hold it until it exploded. He pulled out his tricorder and began scanning for organic remnants. Hopefully their was some kind of DNA from the builder left on it somewhere.
In fact, there were small traces of DNA that he was able to capture and could be run through the database later.
Once he was done, he looked around, and then an idea occurred to him. He went to the shuttle’s repair and maintenance kit, and pulled it out. He opened it and grabbed a few tools and then opened a panel to the environmental control system. He found one of the coolant lines and followed it to a valve and closed it. He took the line off and pulled it out of the conduit and then ran it to the door and set it on the floor. He then went to the emergency supplies and pulled out an EV suit and put on the top, the gloves, and the helmet. Picking up the line, he aimed it at the device and opened the valve, spraying it with the liquid nitrogen from the environmental systems.
Once the chemicals were frozen solid, he reached up and took a deep breath… and pulled the device from the door.
Kane, CSO / R&D
Having frozen the different parts, there was no way for the two chemicals to move towards each other and interaction. There was no explosion.
Commander Myqian, XO
While Kane was busy diffusing the bomb, a security NE came up, Frigga following. “Cmdr Bonner.” Alexis nodded, “En Torbin.”
“Ma’am, I was sent to escort Frigga back to you.” He reached down and patted her. Torbin was one of a few security officers that had done the training program to work with Frigga. “She did a good job. My understanding is she found the Cmdr and stayed with her till help arrived.”
Alexis turned her head to look at him, “The Cmdr?”
Torben nodded, “Yes ma’am. Deck 9 outside the arboretum, Cmdr Haven and Lt Almikaz found them. Cmdr Myqian had been hurt, attacked. I don’t have more details, but Frigga wouldn’t leave her. Dr. Solal took the Cmdr to primary sickbay.” Alexis nodded and thanked him then ordered Frigga down the corridor to wait.
Kane let out a breath he didn’t realize he was holding and then stepped out the door. He looked around and found an empty cargo crate and carefully set the device, upright, on the interior wall of the crate and sealed it. “Ok! I need a transporter tag to get this damn thing outta here before it thaws! And I don’t get paid enough for this bullshit!” he yelled across the shuttle bay.
A few moments later, and with the tag in hand, he went to the crate and marked it. He pressed the comm station on the wall and said =/\= Kane to Transporter Room Two. Tag is active. Get that thing off this ship, will ya? =/\= There was a pause and then a swirl of lights and the crate disappeared. Kane looked at the debris and blast markings one last time before walking to the door. He looked at the assembled crew and said “It’s clear. Go on.” and he walked past them and then looked at Bonner. He didn’t say anything, he just looked. And then he kept on walking.
Kane, CSO / R&D
Bonner stared back at him, the crew’s moving into the bay. Then she followed, a pat on her leg summoning Frigga, and once around the corner she put a hand in his arm stopping him and stepping into an empty storage space. She understood that he needed something, but what exactly she wasn’t sure. She did know he didn’t need anyone from medical bugging him later for an post examination. Her tricorder was already out and did a very quick scan, then the tricorder disappeared. She stared at him. “I have to go check on the officers that were injured, and Cmdr Myqian was hurt…attacked apparently. But what do you need first?”
Bonner, AMO
Kane bent down and kissed her and said simply “I love you, Lex.” and then turned and walked away. “Frigga, stay with Lex.” he said over his shoulder and then he turned a corner and was out of sight.
Kane, CSO / R&D
He was gone before she could ever respond, but that was okay because he could hear her in his ear bud, “I love you too.” Frigga whined, sitting in place but wanting to follow him. Alexis knelt down and pet her until she calmed down. “It’s okay, you’ll see him later, Frigga. Come on, let’s go see everyone in sickbay. You can visit.” They turned in the opposite direction and took a lift down to deck 12. Checking on the four crew members who had been injured.
