Solal did another check of her vitals once she had passed out. She needed the rest. Once he was content she was stable, he set up a schedule for continued treatment as well as a note to monitor the chloroform treatment, and then let Haven, Dr Almikaz, and Capt Taylor, know that she was stable, and that visitation was open. They would be free to sit and stay with her.

~ Lt Solal

Arrived arrived after the Commander had been stabilized. Seeing that she was resting and unconscious, Surra took a seat in a nearby chair. She’d wait and see if she regained consciousness so she could deliver the message Zoi had given her and determine how she was recovering from her ordeal mentally.

It was awhile before Dira stirred. It was not sounds per say that moved Dira into consciousness. More it was that the neurosuppressant had worn off entirely by that point and she was now able to sense people again. It was more an awareness that there were people nearby, rather than anything distinct, so her brain wasn’t able to distinguish what was before and what was now. Her mind drifted in a swirl of disjointed thoughts and images.

The monitors beeped with the sudden increase in heart rate and Dira murmured, her hands twitching.

Commander Myqian, XO

Surra who had a cup of coffee in her hands sat it down on the floor by her chair and jumped to her feet as she checked Dira’s monitors. “Commander. Can you hear me? It’s Surra…Lieutenant Almikaz.” Surra placed her hand on her hands and gently squeezed them, “You are in Sickbay. Your senses are starting to kick in as you become aware of your surroundings. Listen to my voice. You are safe and I am here with you. Your heart rate is extremely high and your senses must be all over the place too.” She gently placed one gentle hand on her head at the hairline and then said, “Can you take some slow, deep breaths for me?” Surra mimicked the breaths she wanted her to do so she could increase her awareness and slow her heart rate.

Almikaz, CoP

There was no direct response (Dira was still not conscious), but as her awareness reached forward, she absorbed more sensory input from around her. Thus, Surra’s calm and deep breathing washed over her and her own breathing fell in sync. The monitors ceased their concern as Myqian’s heart rate dropped and her chest rose and fell in slow and steady motions.

Surra was relieved to see that she was falling in sync with her breathing and it was placing her in a calmer state.

A minute later, Dira could feel something she hadn’t for several days: the essence of someone. It was enough that she opened her eyes, looking for the cause of her new awareness. As the shape came into focus, she exhaled, her body relaxing further. “Surra,” she all but whispered. “I’m in Sickbay.” There was relief but also the unknown as her mind tried to retrace everything that had happened.

“Hey welcome back, Commander. Yes, you are in sickbay. You were in pretty bad shape before Dr. Solal stabilized and then brought you here.”

Lifting her right hand, Dira touched the (likely) temporary brace gingerly with her left fingers, expecting intense pain. There was none and she frowned. “I dislocated my wrist. It was the only way to slip my hand out from the cable he used.” But there were no contusions, no deep cuts from slicing the cable into skin as she tried to find a gap she could release her hands with. The magic of modern medicine was that these injuries were easily made to disappear, even if her wrist felt stiff. Her dark eyes just gazed at the wrist as if it were intensely fascinating to her.

Surra watched as she nervously moved the injured braced hand. “Yes, yes…I do not advise you to move it just yet. There is still some healing that needs to happen.” she gently helped lower her right hand back down. Surra looked at her a moment then said, “Can I get you some water? Anything else?”

Dira frowned as Surra coaxed her hand down but simply replied. “Water, please.”

Surra nodded and left her briefly to go the replicator so she could bring her back a glass of water.

Glass in her good hand, Dira pushed herself gently up so she could take a couple sips.

“I am sorry about everything that happened to you. Please be assured that you are safe now as Mr. Franks has been apprehended by Lieutenant Commander Haven and taken to the Brigg. There was a pause then she said, “Zoi has passed a message to me to give to you. She regrets that she was not able to be here when you woke up. However, she said that you are always in her thoughts and she will be here as soon as she can.” Surra’s face presented a slight smile and there were small tears in her eyes, “You are lucky Dira. If it hadn’t been for Zoi’s persistence, we might not have found you in time. I am sure you know it, but you owe her your life.”

Almikaz, CoP

It took the XO a few moments to parse everything and even before she truly could, a visible shudder rolled over Dira’s body. “I don’t doubt it,” she said softly. “When the explosion…” Her ebony eyes widened. “The explosion! Was anyone hurt? It was William’s doing. I took the PADD he was using.” She patted her chest with her good hand and then realized too late that of course she wasn’t in her uniform. They would have removed it to treat her. “The explosion… it made me so angry! I had to get out of there. After I dislocated my wrist, he didn’t see me coming,” she said with a bitter laugh. “kicked him right n the face with my boots.” She couldn’t have wiped the satisfied smile off her face if she tried. Dira was a compassionate and understanding person, but even she had her limits. She owed William Franks nothing, not even her mercy, even if she understood that he was mentally unwell.

Commander Myqian, XO

Surra averted her eyes when she asked if anyone was injured in the explosion, then said, “Yes…some of the crew were injured.” There was a pause then she said, “You shouldn’t worry about it right now. Lt Cmder Kane, Bonner, and Lieutenant Savel are on the affected decks providing aid to the injured. We should focus on your own recovery for the time being.” She knew Dira probably wasn’t going to go for that, but she knew she needed to suggest it anyway.
She listened as Dira explained to her how she was able to free herself and her attempt to stop him from doing any further damage to the ship. Surra smiled and said, “Obviously this man had no idea who he was dealing with. You did good Commander. I am sure if you hadn’t fought like you did, we would be here at this moment. It could have been a lot worse.”

Almikaz, CoP

Surra had no idea, naturally, and at the moment Dira was having a hard time wrapping her mind around it all. But there were some things she knew for certain. “If I had not gotten away, gotten that PADD away from him, we would be long gone right now and I very much doubt you would ever have seen me again.” But that was before he realized that she had gone against his plan, betrayed his delusion. That William had turned angry and Dira knew all too well what would happen in the unlikely event he managed to escape custody.

She shifted her dark gaze to the ceiling, letting the words roll out as if she were reciting from the diagnostic manual… which she sort of was. “Delusional Disorder, erotomanic type. characterized by non-bizarre delusions, irritable or dysphoric mood, no marked impairments or bizarre behaviour and does not meet the criteria for schizophrenia. There is often a misguided effort to rescue an object of affection from some imagined danger.”
