She frowned slightly, naturally inclining her head slightly. “A little bit? Based on what you said before I thought it’s be quite strong and then adjust it away.” Was it working and she just didn’t know it? Or did they need to tweak it more?
Commander Myqian, XO
Kane nodded. “Like I said… you should hear in kind of the background. Try listening to it not with your ears. And then start adjusting from there.” He picked up the oddly modified tricorder on his desk and activated it and looked at her. “Well? Its not gonna adjust on its own, Doc.”

Dira gave him a withering glare. “Let me do this as I’m ready to, will you?” she said, focusing her mind, engaging her abilities. Ahh, there it was: a hum. “As much as this is a necessity at times, It’s not something I’m looking forward to, just so you know. It’s not like having sore muscles and slipping into a hot bath or shower. My abilities frame everything about how I experience life. It’s not a small thing to just turn them off on a whim, even if it is a fascinating process.” She was allowing herself space to be feel trepidation about this, even if she was equally excited.
“Yeah, cause being able to get some peace and quiet with the flip of a switch would really suck.” Kane said with a wink. He knew it was a big shift, but he also knew that it was needed.
She turned the right stud until the hum faded. With a simple nod to him, she turned the left one, focusing her mind intently. Soon her ability to pick up emotions and thoughts faded. It wasn’t entirely gone, but it was dramatically less. “It’s about ninety percent. There’s still a little input even though I’ve turned the stud all the way.”

Kane lifted his tricorder and took some readings. Nodding to himself he said “I capped the upper level on a guess. Didn’t have a definitive threshold. Hang on.” He opened the charging box for the headband and lifted the cushion it would sit on to reveal a set of tools. They were far from standard, and appeared to have been designed just for the suppressor. He pulled out thin, crooked wired attached to a handle and said “Hold still, and tell me when its gone entirely.” He inserted the wire in a tiny hole in the center of the power stud and slowly began to turn it.

While it wasn’t necessary and didn’t actually do anything specific, Dira still closed her eyes as if it would help her focus. “And… there,” she said softly.
Opening her dark eyes, she inhaled slowly. “Seems good,” she said, breaking into a smile. “Well done, Kane. This is definitely an accomplishment. Next time we’re in some sort of chaotic situation, hopefully I won’t need anything else.”
“How’s the best way to test this over a period of time? Wear it constantly? Take breaks to adjust?”
Commander Myqian, XO
Kane shrugged and said “I dunno. I never made anything like this before. From a fabrication and science standpoint, its pretty straightforward. It’s just like noise canceling technology… except for telepathy. Make an equal and opposite noise to cancel the incoming. Pretty simple. From a medical standpoint, I don’t see anything negative. It doesn’t feed the signal into you, it broadcasts it out so the noise coming in can’t be heard or felt. The only thing I would be worried about is developing a dependence. But also make sure that its use doesn’t inhibit your abilities when its not being worn. Other than that? Up to you.”
Kane, CSO/R&D
Dira inhaled deeply, letting herself mull it over. She carefully took the device off and studied it. “Honestly, I’m not even sure. Maybe a few minutes each day til I get used to the instant switch? I’ve only ever interrupted my abilities chemically and while there’s no permanent damage, it’s… not always comfortable. Being able to slip in and out of my telepathy when crucial could make a huge difference.” She offered Solomon a smile. “I suppose we’ll keep this quiet since experimentation on people usually comes with a ton of paperwork,” she added with a wink.

Kane shrugged and said “Sure… but only if you are trying to get published or something s#!t. This is just a doctor helping someone. That’s what we’re supposed to do, right?” He picked up the oddly modified tricorder and ran it over Myqian’s head. “Well, everything seems identical to before. Keep a journal of when you use it. How it feels, what you are sensing around you with it off and on, any headaches or side effects. I’ll read your entries and make notes, and if we need to make adjustments we can. How’s that sound?”
