She frowned slightly, naturally inclining her head slightly. “A little bit? Based on what you said before I thought it’s be quite strong and then adjust it away.” Was it working and she just didn’t know it? Or did they need to tweak it more?

Kane nodded. “Like I said… you should hear in kind of the background. Try listening to it not with your ears. And then start adjusting from there.” He picked up the oddly modified tricorder on his desk and activated it and looked at her. “Well? Its not gonna adjust on its own, Doc.”

Dira gave him a withering glare. “Let me do this as I’m ready to, will you?” she said, focusing her mind, engaging her abilities. Ahh, there it was: a hum. “As much as this is a necessity at times, It’s not something I’m looking forward to, just so you know. It’s not like having sore muscles and slipping into a hot bath or shower. My abilities frame everything about how I experience life. It’s not a small thing to just turn them off on a whim, even if it is a fascinating process.” She was allowing herself space to be feel trepidation about this, even if she was equally excited.

She turned the right stud until the hum faded. With a simple nod to him, she turned the left one, focusing her mind intently. Soon her ability to pick up emotions and thoughts faded. It wasn’t entirely gone, but it was dramatically less. “It’s about ninety percent. There’s still a little input even though I’ve turned the stud all the way.”
