Kane was pacing back and forth in his office like a caged animal, hands clenching and unclenching as he tried everything he knew to get and stay calm. It was that Psych Chief… by the gods how he couldn’t stand that woman. In the deepest parts of his mind, he knew she was just trying to do her job… but the how she went about it just infuriated him to no end. “She just doesn’t listen…” he growled to himself. That deep part of his mind replied with And I’m not the easiest to talk to… and Kane cursed.

He ran his hands through his hair and blew out a long and frustrated breath towards the ceiling. The sessions had to be done. That was one of the conditions of his release. But they had to be done with someone who had the clearance required to hear what he was mandated to talk about. So that meant someone who was both cleared and qualified to offer Counseling…

And Kane stopped pacing. He looked at the wall for a long moment. The CoP and he were oil and water, and that more than likely wouldn’t change. Especially after their interaction in the office and lab. But there was one other person on the ship who met both criteria. Kane dropped into his desk chair and began pulling up the recordings of the interaction between him and Almikaz in the lab. He compiled it, not editing anything, and then put it in a message to the ship’s XO. The message read =/\= Commander. You know I have to do those gods-be-damned monthly ‘evaluations’. The CoP and I tried… and failed miserably. See the attached file. But they have to be done. I was wondering if you could do them. Let me know, or at least help me find someone else to yell at every month. =/\= it was signed simply ‘Kane’.

The response wasn’t immediate but a little while later Myqian did reply with:

The next week, Kane walked up to the door of the XO’s office and pressed the chime with his knuckles. He was hoping that the CoP had already filed her report and the XO had gone over it. He didn’t relish rehashing the ‘conversation’.

I have had the opportunity to meet with Lieutenant Commander Kane twice, once on Stardate 75530.08 and the second time on Startdate 75565.82. After these two visits, I must regrettably report that no favorable progress was made in his treatment during either visit.
The Lieutenant Commander’s behavior can be described as one who attempts to manipulate and use harmful words to get what he thinks he deserves, whether that be respect or a favorable assessment. I have specifically identified him as a mild sociopathic narcissist, which is a person with a unique combination of traits that causes them to create destruction in their professional life and thus find a reason to isolate himself from his colleagues as much as possible and when he can, which certainly does him more harm than good as well as limit the progress of his treatment. I purposely placed the mild on his diagnosis because, despite everything, I do believe he is capable of showing some level of care for others, but not until he is well acquainted with them.
I have no doubt that the Lieutenant Commander is capable, smart, and therefore able to perform his job duties at a high level of competence and has the necessary intellectual skills to do so. However, there are many aspects of his personality that are troubling. These particular disorders will prevent him from ever being able to effectively connect with his colleagues here on the Ogawa.

My official diagnosis was made by studying Lieutenant Commander Kane during our sessions. He explicitly displayed certain traits during both sessions, therefore, leaving me with no choice but to reach the conclusion I have.

The observed traits that factored into Dr. Soloman Kane’s (Lieutenant Commander, Chief Science Officer/Research & Development on the USS Ogawa) diagnosis:

• A grandiose sense of self-importance
• A belief that he is intellectually more gifted than others and can only be understood by similar people and should only associate with those types of people
• A sense of entitlement and expectation that others will comply or give them favorable treatment
• Lacks empathy/compassion for others
• Displayed constant arrogant behaviors and attitudes
• Implements gaslighting as a control mechanism
• Verbal attacks on colleagues to imply that they are inadequate in their roles or position

It is my recommendation the Lieutenant Commander continue treatment and although it is not what I prefer, I recommend that I continue to evaluate the Lieutenant Commander during his ongoing sessions. This will force him to eventually develop a rapport with me and in time start to exhibit trust. This would propel him toward the first step in his treatment plan and facilitate his moving forward in his treatment. It is my belief that Lieutenant Commander Kane can achieve the metrics outlined in his treatment plan if he is willing to make an effort to work toward accomplishing them.
