Alexis stood and began moving dishes to the cart. “It is disruptive, but promotions and commendations are part of joining Star Fleet or any militarily organized group. The pomp and circumstance is annoying and I can make better use of my time. At least Taylor didn’t pull us from work twice, and the food was decent.” She snagged bacon and another biscuit while she did. She was calmer, the back and forth conversation giving focus and direction to everything in her head. “You should cook more. At least with Taylor you know she genuinely values your work. Is that look for Taylor or my mother or both?” She grinned and shrugged, “Take your time, I have to go back to sickbay for awhile.”

“Okay.” came his response, but it was obvious he was now in it.

It was a few hours later when Kane called Alexis 9ver the comms. =/\= Finished that job if you want to come see me. =/\= he said.

Alexis looked up from the scans she was taking and tapped her badge. If she wanted to see him? Of course she did. =^=Half an hour.=^= It was strange to her that a year ago she would have abhorred, even been disgruntled, about an interruption. She still loved her work, lived for it, spent more hours there than she should and worked through meals, but now…now life was more.

In his office, the desk was back to being a desk and there was certainly a more ‘Kane’ feel to the place. The man himself was leaned back in his chair, feet on the desk, reading a PaDD.

Kane

Alexis pressed the chime, simply out of habit and walked in. She noticably sighed, as if the space was relaxing. It felt normal, still needed more clutter. She grabbed a seat and sat. The room still held the lingering smell of the food.
