Alexis looked surprised. Myqian came down here to think? Alexis found that strangely coincidental. The day the XO had chased her out of the R&D lab this was where Alexis had come to work and think and try and figure out what to do. She’d sat in an empty storage closet and tried to work, but had instead lost her focus and had a break down that she was very ashamed of. Vent and it would stay confidential? So this was like a counseling session? She did them, she never avoided them. She found them difficult to delve into her feelings and the reasons for them. Not sure how to explain, Alexis said a version of the one thing that, when at the academy, had always seemed to get understanding for the cadet who said it, and people nodded and then left them alone. “My parents are visiting.”

This was one of those times when Dira’s skills all merged together. And perhaps this was even an attempt at reconciling the different parts of herself. Just because she was the first officer, didn’t mean she couldn’t approach someone’s personal issues with all the experience she had gained a psychiatrist, right? “Tell me about them… your parents, I mean.”

Commander Myqian, XO

Alexis tilted her head slightly, what other them could Myqian possibly have meant from the context of their conversation? Perhaps others needed such clarification. Alexis really did not want to discuss her parents. She was hoping for a simple nod and “ah” and the XO go on her way. Alexis hopes didn’t seem to be in play here, though. She took a noticeable breath, Myqian could probably even feel Alexis ordering her thoughts and pushing aside the more pressing work details. “My father is a science officer. Ecology is his specialty and he teaches that and exo-biology at the Academy. He loves research and discovery, but took a job at the Academy when my other got pregnant with me. My mother is a baker, has her own shop in Walnut Creek and is quite successful.”

Facts. Dira hadn’t expected much else but they had to start somewhere. “Parents can inspire all sort of reactions for a lot of different reasons. What about them being here is currently difficult? Enough so that you stormed out into the corridor?”

Commander Myqian, XO

“My father is not difficult. I am surprised to see him here, I didn’t know they were coming. I’m sure he used several favors and had to take a lot of time off from teaching to come see me. I think he is currently in the arboretum driving the botanists crazy.” Those statements made her smile slightly. Alexis finally moved over to a stack of crates and sat down. She wasn’t getting out of this. She really didn’t want to discuss this with anyone, at all. She wasn’t sure she trusted Myqian to tell her something so personal. It was like going to confess to Ever all over again only to find....no. Solomon kept telling her to stop comparing past and present. Despite what Myqian had done, in Alexis’ eyes, was too akin to Ever, Alexis did respect Myqian as an officer. She had no problems taking orders from her at all. She shouldn’t judge other counselors, other telepaths, on one bad one. She sighed/groaned/growled out her frustration. She hated this touchy-feely crap. Instead of saying anything about her mother, she stared at her hands instead and then looked at Myqian. “Did you know that Kane asked me to marry him?”
