Kane took a bite and said “I’m game. Y’all are here for two weeks, right? Plenty of time to swing a wedding.” around the bite. He chewed a second and then said “Wow, this is amazing.” as if the first part of his words had never happened.
Kane
“W....” she gasped stunned and then Alexis choked and whatever she was going to say was lost in the coughing. Alisson nodded, “Two weeks.” Then beamed, “Thank you. It’s one of Alexis’ favorites.” Anthony was watching Alexis expecting her to get up and disappear into a lab. Instead she was staring at Kane. It was that look she got every time he pushed her to the edge of her comfort zone. It would have always been that way, Kane would just walk in and go “Let’s go hurry up.” or it would be a picture he’d drawn…and then it would happen.

Kane didn’t look at her, he simply ate another bite and said “How do you layer in the peppermint so evenly, Alisson? I mean, every bite has almost the exact same amount of peppermint. That’s a trick.”
Kane
“Actually that’s partially Alexis. She was…” she looked at Anthony, “What 3?”
He nodded, “Yeah 3 sounds right.”
Alexis finally managed to stop coughing and staring at him like he had the third eye this time. Baby stories, they were telling baby stories. “I was 3 years, 4 months, and 1 day to be exact.”
“She was complaining that there wasn’t peppermint in each of her bites. And swore we could make it better. So I let her help me. At some point Anthony got dragged into it and showed her how to set up an experiment and test it and change it. And after about 15 batches she was happy.”
“And a lot of mess, don’t forget the mess,” Anthony added.
The mess has been horrendous, “I was right they were better.”
“But…the evenness of the layers is simple. After you pour each layer you chill the pan and batter half an hour so it firms and the layers don’t mix. Takes extra prep time, but it’s worth it.”

OOC: Just wanted to jump in and say how much I’m loving this thread! And yay for weddings! lol.
~LindsKane nodded and finished his brownie. He then finished his bourbon and leaned back. “So did Lex tell you how we met? Actually, did she tell you anything, that prepared you for, well… all of this?” he asked, gesturing at himself and her.

The use of a nickname, again, and no objection from his daughter had him glancing between them with a poorly suppressed grin on his face. He had to wonder how long she protested that, but chose not to ask. He didn’t need to know everything.
It was hard to tell, with Alexis’ head turned paying attention to Frigga, but she may have rolled her eyes hard enough to knock herself over if she hadn’t been sitting. Yes she had told them. Solomon knew she had. Had it prepared them for ‘all of this’ as he put it? No. There was too much that wasn’t allowed to be said, for all their sakes. Of course she hadn’t told them they were engaged, but they hadn’t been the last time she had talked to them. She’d written but not mentioned it. She didn’t know what to say about that. In true Alexis fashion she was massively over thinking it.
“She said you met in the R&D lab,” Alisson shrugged a shoulder with a look that clearly said, where else would Alexis meet someone but at work? “We knew something was going on because there we are fussing at her about not calling and the first thing she says is ‘I met someone.’”
Alexis shook her head, “That is not the first thing I said. I apologized for not writing and…”
Alisson waved a hand dismissing whatever Alexis was going to say and just kept going. “Alexis never mentions dating anyone so that was a big deal. Alexis doesn’t make any decision unless she’s absolutely sure of it, so when she said she wanted us to meet you, eventually, I knew for her it was serious. I knew it would be fine because Alexis had good taste.” Alexis’ fingers were tracing out patterns on the table top, and she was running computations and compiling research queries for a patient in the back of her head. They were going to go on and on about this, and she was paying attention but it was more comfortable to ‘work.’ Alexis looked down at Frigga a moment, her mother’s comment barbed; she hadn’t made very good decisions before, but her mother wasn’t wrong. She never talked about dating and she was very serious about Solomon.
Anthony sipped the last of his glass. “She said you quiet her mind and when you can’t you can keep up with her. So at the very least I was prepared for someone wholly unique, brilliant, and special. The rest,” he shrugged, “I didn’t speculate on. I learned a long time ago with Alexis to not form expectations because other wise we got left behind trying to reconcile reality with incorrect predictions. The reality was always more amazing.”
