“Oh no, addictive entertainment,” she said with a grin. “Well, it does sound like it might be worth the risk, count me in. Just name the time.”

“I have some off duty time next week if you fancy it after your shift ends.” She replied

“Let’s make a plan of it then,” Dira said with a grin.

“Done deal” willow replied nodding.

For a moment Dira just gazed at Willow, and void of being able to sense the woman’s mind, she was using the rest of her skills. “You know, I know I still have a bit of self-doubt, and that it’s all a part of the learning process, but thank you, Willow. Some captains might have just brushed off my worries as inconsequential and told me to get over it. I appreciate you truly listening and I guess reassuring me too.”

With a grin Willow said “I appreciate you coming to talk to me. Sometimes it’s easy to get lost in the rank and procedure of everything and forget that the crews we have and the connections they share are just as important as the positions they hold and the jobs they do. More so in fact. We are starfleet officers certainly but we are people too.”

Dira nodded as she smiled. “I guess I surprised myself too by the wave of doubt. I’m so used to being confident in my abilities that it’s disconcerting to be so off-balance right now. But I guess that too makes for a good experience I can share with others when they encounter it.” She rose from the desk, taking her glass with her and recycled it in the replicator.

Willow stood too and placed her cup in after Dira’s

Hands akimbo, she gazed at Willow. “Thank you also for being a friend. With Bob gone I don’t have people with the same reference points and I think I’m missing the inside jokes a little. The growing pains of moving up and people moving on in Starfleet I guess.”

Smiling Willow said “I’m honoured to consider you both a colleague and a friend Dira. Please know you’re welcome any time. We make a good team.”

With a wide grin, Myqian reached out and placed her hand on Willow’s shoulder for a moment. No words; none were needed.

Dira left feeling better than when she had come in, but it was more than that. Sometimes you just had to get the nonsensical ideas out in the open so you could actively see what was true or not. In a way it had been that way with Kane, and it was like that here too.
