“I don’t like it.” Dira sighed. “I’ve always though my connection to the people around me was an asset, a tool I could use like any therapeutic technique.” Dira knocked back some more of the whiskey. “I feel a little adrift to be honest, but it’s necessary. And short-lived. I’ll get over it.”

Sipping her own drink Willow considered the woman’s answer. “I can only imagine how difficult that must be and if I’m honest I can see why you’d be worried. But if it will help then it will be worth it.”

She nodded. “I have to believe that, otherwise it feels like one more thing that is off right now.” Twirling the glass on the desk, a smile traipsed across her face. “But you know the thing that is going amazingly? Zoi,” Dira said. “I don’t know how to describe it except that it’s so easy with her. Comfortable. Intoxicating. I’ve waited a long time to feel like this again, but I don’t want to push or complicate unnecessarily.”

The change in tone and body language caused a warm smile to spread across Willow’s face. “I am so happy for you.” She said and pulled her feet up under her. “Spill, everything you want to share. My love life is DOA, I need to live vicariously through others!”

Sipping from her glass, Dira was thoughtful for a moment. “I told her everything, about how Paige died, how I was after, how it’s affecting me now. In a new relationship there can be… tension when one person has lost a pervious partner. Like a ghost lingering there to ruin whatever new fun could be had. But Zoi doesn’t act that way. She lets Paige be whatever I need her to be. There’s no competition.” Dira leaned forward. “It’s utter freedom to love Zoi as much as I want-” She drew in a sharp breath, her eyes widening. She had never said that, even to herself. She had never used the word Love in conjunction with Zoi Haven. It felt good. Amazing.

It was also a little terrifying.

“Wow… shouldn’t seen that shift coming. I guess I’m actually in love,” Myqian said softly. “Huh.”

Willow grinned. It was so tempting to squeak like a child. She didn’t, she did bounce slightly however. “Dira…I’m so excited for you. It sounds like you are starting a new chapter and by the way…you guys make such a cute couple. “ she drank then made a noise as if something occurred to her. “mMm.” She said and swallowed. “But keep it out of my command Center.”
