=/\=NE MacMillion to Octavia. I have a couple of engineering ensigns that can help. What do you need for them to bring with them,=/\= a shrill voice came back over the comms. =/\= We can send down a generator and a couple of Ensigns. Do you need complete purifiers or do you think you can repair what you have?=/\=

GM Wombat

The young Trill considered and recalled what Kane had requested, =^=We’ll need completely new ones, the ones here are completely shot and repairing them would take too long, the water is badly contaminated and Lieutenant Kane is concerned at the toxicity levels.=^= Ok so he hadn’t actually said that but a little white lie to get the equipment quicker was all in the name of good, besides she herself was worried about the toxicity levels. No wonder why people were ill.

There was silence then a reply =/\= We’ll see if anyone from engineering can supervise the installation. Otherwise stand by. I’ll have some of the water treatment chemicals transported now so you can at least get started.=/\=

A few minutes later a pallet of portable water treatment devices and chemicals started to appear with a couple of engineering NEs to assist Kane and Raain.

Kane stepped out as the pallet appeared and the look on his face was not a happy one… although that also seemed to be his face’s default setting, so who knew how he really felt? “That’ll do for now, but we will need full-on sanitation and permanent power to get this right. That, and a crap ton of bleach. Get cleaning supplies sent down asap, will ya please?” he asked as he looked at the two Engineers through the cascade of hair across his face. Once thats done, get the purifiers set up and run a dedicated circuit from the generator to the structure. Also get some submersible UV lights and some ambient light for the inside. And then get ready to get dirty. We got a lot of cleaning to do before we can start this place up.” He then looked at Raain and said “Pathology and virology, right? Let’s take a look at this mold and mildew and see if we are dealing with anything we need to worry about more than normal.” and he turned and walked inside.

Octavia beamed a smile, ‘brilliant!’ She thought finally getting to put her training to use. She like most scientists though seemingly unlike Kane loved her work and she didn’t care to get dirty all in the name of discovery or in this case figuring out what they were dealing with!. “Yes sir!” She finally said following him as they walked inside. She slid her testing bag off of her shoulder and waited to be told where to start.

The two NEs nodded and turned towards the pallet, unloading bags of bleach and the other chemicals one would use to “shock” a pool. One of them, a black-haired woman, pulled out a PaDD and scanned the bag before reading the instructions. “It has been so long since I had to do this manually,” she muttered reading the star-fleet manual on how to clean water treatment facilities. “Oh ok. First we need to remove the debris, then we test for pH balance, then we adjust accordingly.”

She looked up to the balding middle aged engineer, “I think we better get power restored first so we can kick on the filters. Do you want to make sure the filters are in check while I look to see where the generator is?” She glanced over towards the med student and the scientist shouting, “Get a water sample with parts per million of… stuff!”

Kane tossed a small black bag at her feet. “Done. Now lets get this cleaned up. If we get this place operational and safe in four hours, I’ll buy everyone a bottle of real tequila.” and he looked at the nastiness that was the interior of the pump house.

“Because we will definitely need a drink after this.”

Octavia sucked in a breath, regretted it immediately and coughed. “No time like the present,” She said as she took some of the cleaning equipment the engineers had brought and began helping to clean while her equipment processed the Toxicology report. She gagged as she did and her eyes watered at the stench and slime which had been created.

The two NE’s (NE Vasquez and NE Ruta) that came with Kane walked the perimeter around the area for anything or anyone that did not belong. They kept their eye on their charges as they went as well, not wanting them to be caught off guard by anything either. One of the NE’s looked a little sharply at Octavia as she gagged but upon understanding what the situation was, went back to their search. Perhaps Vazquez was a little wired tight. Realizing this, he rolled his shoulders and took a breath to relax. Inner peace was the best foundation for security minded individuals according to the chief. If he was at peace, his vigilance will extend further than if he were filled with turmoil.

The clean up was hard work. Even with all of the advanced equipment, it took many hours to scrub the tanks from top to bottom, sterilize all of the surfaces, and restore power.

Once everything had been cleaned the engineers and scientists got to play with chemicals, which is a scary notion. Dumping bags and bottles of various things into the water and waiting, mixing and waiting, testing and retesting until it was finally clear and the particulates, filters running and everything looked good to go. This was now a first class water treatment plant.

Kane stood up; his hair wet from sweat, labor, and the unavoidable contact with the water they had worked so hard to clean up. “Nice. That should supply them for a few months at least… more if they do the proper preventative maintenance, right?” he asked sharply to the two engineers. By now, they knew that Kane wasn’t a complete jerk… but he also wasn’t a kind and gentle person, either. He expected results, and may the gods help anyone who didn’t supply them. But the team at the water plant had excelled, and Kane’s question was meant for confirmation, not accusation.

The engineers washed off their hands and nodded sharply at Kane. It was good work, honest work, and would keep them hydrated for a while. “Thank you chief,” the first said taking the rag to wipe at his neck. “I think we are probably good to go work on other things. Anything else you need from us while we are here?”

GM Wombat

Kane looked around for a second and then said “Actually, yeah… there is. We have a good source of potable water, but I don’t see any hygiene stations anywhere. So what would you two think of building some showers? We’d need drainage for waste water, of course… but we can cut that in pretty quick. Think you two have that build left in ya?”
