Cradling his arm at the angle it had ended up Cai entered sickbay and blinked as the mix of his hair and the blood from the cut along his forehead obscured his field of vision. He swore as he let go of his arm to wipe at it. Some ten minutes ago walking along one of the walkways above the cargo bay, his favourite haunt as it were, he had slipped and called most of the way down a ladder into a heap. His elbow had struck the rung on the way down and his head soon after. It was not at all possible to put himself back together this time and so as much as he hated it sickbay it was.He leaned on the bulk head and glanced around. For a hospital ship this wasn’t very busy that much was a relief . “Hello…little help?”
Cai
A nurse rounded the corner and saw the pathetic form of Cai Taylor. “Oh. Oh god. Come over here.” She guided him towards Drake, who was leaning against an unoccupied biobed, reading. “Dr Marshall! This boy needs your help.” Drake looked up, exhasperated. When he saw the bleeding heap that Cai had made of himself, he said “Well. Finally. Some real work. Sit down.” He pointed at the bed as he tossed the PaDD he had been reading onto the next bed over. He went over and got an emergency medical kit. Truly the closest thing he had to a best friend. “What’d you do to yourself?” He asked as he pulled out the tricorder to check if the arm was broken.
-Dr Drake Marshall
Cai followed dutifully rolling his eyes. Cai looked at the bed and scowled causing him to hiss as it pulled the wound above his piercing. “Dude. How?” He asked indicating his arm with his chin and the fact that he couldn’t get onto the bed one handed.
The nurse embarrassingly assisted him into a seated position as the doctor sought a medkit. “I got into a fight with a Klingon, What the hell does it look like, I fell.”
“I put that together. Fell from what onto what and how far?”
Cai rolled his eyes again, “down a ladder, I dunno a deck or so onto my ass.”
The arm was indeed broken, both bones appeared to have fractured. The elbow joint itself however had displcated and the joint itself shattered as if it had suffered from the brunt of severe impact on something with most of the 16year olds weight. It would need to be manipulated surgically in order to put the pieces in the right position before it could then be fixed.
Cai Taylor
Drake smiled. “Finally. Something fun.” He looked up from the tricorder and turned to the nurse. Prep OR 1 for me. And then get this cheerful lad on the table.” He looked at Cai. “Most of your arm is broken. I imagine your keen little mind put that together. However, what you may not have known is that the joint is shattered. And I need to repair it surgically. Fortunately for you surgery is my specialty.”
-Dr Drake Marshall
The smile seemed to unsettle the moody teens demeanour. He turned paler than milk and his tone wavered slightly as he licked his dry lips before responding. “Yeah I kinda figured that when the joint wasn’t where it was supposed to be. Why does this make you happy is what confuses me. What gives.” He demanded. The biobed behind him registered his heart rate spike slightly and his blood pressure respond similarly.
“It’s interesting. Don’t see too many cases like this. Around here. When I see something interesting that I can fix, it makes me happy. Can’t help it.”
He stared at Drake “Oh hell no, you aren’t doing anything of the sort. I’m 16 you can’t put me anywhere without my guardians permission. So bite me Doc. No surgery, no you want to do something about the cut on my head and I’ll be on my way.”
He scowled and gently tried to shake the electric blue hair out of his eyes. The scanner would tell Drake that despite the bravado he was in shock.
Cai
“Look. If I don’t fix your arm, the bones are going to knit together out of place. Your arm will be partially broken for the rest of your life. So, drop the “I can handle myself” act, and let me do my job. I happen to be quite good at it. But, if you insist, I can call your guardian and say you were playing around and broke your arm in half and now you’re refusing treatment. To look at you, you match the description of the Captain’s brother. So. Your choice. Elective surgery, or I call Captain Taylor down here and we all have a chat.”
-Dr Drake Marshall
The doors whooshed open then and tall, lanky Vulcan boy walked in. He looked around curiously for a moment and then spotted Cai and the doctor. “Hey. I was looking for you, Cai…”He blinked as he noted the blood and the awkward arm then.”Oh. Are you hurt?”
Adrian Sorel
“Hurt is putting it lightly.” Drake turned to Adrian Sorel. “I think mangled is the word you’re looking for. And this genius is refusing anything more than surface level treatment. Are you two friends? Try and talk some sense into him. He shattered his elbow. And a little bit of arm. And cleanly fractured both the radius and ulna. He needs surgery for the elbow, and I can just fix the whole arm while I’m there. I’ve reassembled spinal cords nerve by nerve, and he’s nervous about his elbow.”
-Dr Drake Marshall
“It would be highly illogical for you not to receive treatment, Cai.” Adrian Sorel said as he looked at his new friend with eyebrow raised.”If you leave it untreated you will encounter future difficulties. We can’t jam together without your arm in good condition.”
Adrian Sorel
Cai scowled at both Adrian and the Doctor. “This isnt logic! This is purely emotional.” He sighed and seemed to flop against the biobed, which reigisteted his heart rate increasing and his temperature and blood pressure starting to climb.
“Fine.” He all but whispered, eyes fixed on the ceiling.
Cai
Adrian Sorel looked up at the doctor in concern.”Do you want me to contact the Captain? Shouldn’t she know if your going to have to do surgery on Cai?” He asked offering his services since it looked like the doctor would be busy with his friend.
Adrian Sorel
“Thanks for convincing Cai. And thank you for the offer… whoever you are. But I’ll contact Captain Taylor. You can hang around, leave, I really don’t care. Just don’t get in the way. Nurse! Prep Mr Taylor. I think sedative first.”
Adrian Sorel nodded before he said quietly to Cai,”I’ll be here while they do the surgery.” He then stepped back out of the way of the medical crew.
Adrian Sorel
=/\=Dr Marshall to Captain Taylor. Your brother took quite the fall. He requires minor surgery. He’s going in now. I’ll notify you when the procedure’s done.=/\= As soon as the call was over, he went to scrub up.
On the Bridge Willow’s expression went from confused to worry then somthing akin to terror. She glanced at the XO chair and was on her feet in half a heartbeat. =^= im on my way.=^=
Drake had no sooner walked into OR 1 than Cai was brought in. He was placed on what seemed to anyone but Drake to be a starkly empty bed. A nurse brought in an emergency surgery kit. Drake’s best friend. “And we can begin.” He pulled a stool up so he was sitting just above eye level with Cai’s arm. The kit was placed on a tray. He picked up a laser scalpel. He opened the length of Cai’s arm. He thought he might as well heal all the bone while he was there. And he could heal them more completely from the inside. Oh Cai. You didn’t have to do this just for me. It’s like Christmas. The elbow was in nine pieces. It would’ve been difficult to distinguish Drake’s smile under his surgical mask, but it was there nonetheless. He grabbed a bone knitter and a surgical tractor, somewhat similar to a ship’s tractor beam in function. Having set his tools to their finest settings, he set to work. Each shard in turn moved into place and set. Then, setting the tractor to a wider setting, he drew the sides of the fractured radius and then ulna together and knit them cleanly in place. He closed the site and said. “Well. I don’t think that could’ve gone much better. Get him to the sickbay floor and wake him up.”

-bump-
As the surgery finished Willow stood watching her unconcious brother be taken from the OR. Apparently she had been watching from the observation area. She glanced at him saw his chest rise and fall then immediatly went to Drake.
“What happened?” She asked trying not to make it sound like an order.
Willow Taylor
CODrake looked the woman talking to him up and down once to identify her. “Ah. Captain. Your brother, as he told me, fell down a ladder, the distance of roughly 1 deck. He shattered his elbow, and broke both bones of the forearm. He was a… less than keen patient. But everything went as planned. He should be coming out of anaesthetic anytime now.”
-Dr Drake Marshall
Adrian Sorel sat quietly by Cai’s bedside and wondered if he should stay or go as he glanced at the Captain nervously. His lip was caught between his teeth as he chewed on it.
