“Wha-?” came from William; it was almost a word. His eyes opened and then started wandering until they locked with Dira’s.

“Something hit me,” he said. “That’s why we crashed.”

Tight lines formed around her eyes and mouth, but Dira held his gaze and exhaled slowly through her lips. “We can discuss it later,” she said firmly. “Right now we have a mission to accomplish, and one that is now extra complicated by the fact that we’re stuck here and eventually going to collide into the planet, so, if you can get on your feet, then we should really get going. We have a bunch of miners in distress who need our help.” Dira rose to her feet and stepped to the side. “Oh, and we sent a distress call to the Calypso. Hopefully they’ll be able to send another runabout.”

Brushing her irritation with William to the side, Dira retrieved her suit’s helmet and slipped it on, a sucking noise indicating the seal was solid. “Alright, let’s go, time’s a wasting,” she said simply. Franks was the ranking officer but until he was properly functional, someone had to keep this mission moving forward.

Bob followed suit in suiting up. His helmet also had a good seal, but his was distinguishable from all the others from a little bright red spot on the upper right corner, which happened to correspond with a very small cut on Franks’ head. The cut that was in the middle of what was turning into an impressively purple bruise.

“It was your helmet,” Franks said, looking at Mason.
“Sir?”
“You threw your helmet at me.”

Dira quirked an eyebrow at William, the level of irritation going up slightly as she grabbed a med kit to help Rodriguez with injuries. She might not be a practicing physician but she still had a medical degree.

Bob had enough experience in Starfleet to know that the best thing for him to do right now was to not respond directly to this rather ridiculous accusation. There would be time for it later, and during the “later” there would be a sufficient review of events that would determine exactly what happened.

Instead, he simply looked at Dira.

“Since I’m your homing beacon, I’ll take point for the time being, but Mason, if you can keep an eye on our surroundings and scans for anything unexpected, that would be good. With all my focus on the miners, I might miss something,” Dira said moving towards the hatch. Good thing they still had power.

As the hatch lowered, they found they had to clamber carefully over the edge and drop slightly to the ground given the shuttle was on an angle from it’s nose dive into the surface. “Watch the edges so you don’t snag your suit. Last thing we want is a rupture,” Myqian said as she swung herself over easily.

She waited for William to make his way over and stepped closer to offer him assistance. She wanted to privately ask him how he was feeling but not only was that likely to backfire, she would have to switch to a private comm line and right now that also was a bad idea. They all needed to be working together and for the moment she wanted to give him the benefit of the doubt. Though… that wouldn’t stretch too far right now.
