Dira nodded slowly as she gathered items onto a rectangular dish she brought with her. “I was afraid you were going to say something like that. I mean, I’m skilled and can step in and do field medicine in an emergency, but I’m not the person you ask to do surgery and even in psychiatry I think it was false hope that I could maintain my license. Without keeping up my training, I’ll lose it within the year. Sucks, but I guess by then I’ll know whether I really am cut out for this Command thing.” It pained her to have to admit that but she couldn’t do both jobs, and certainly not on this ship. They had plenty of health professionals. They didn’t need her poking about being nostalgic. this was supposed to be a new start, wasn’t it?

“If you wish to keep it we can organise something. It’s not uncommon on a medical ship however it’s harder than it may first appear.” She smiled sadly and looked down at some PaDDs.

Dira pondered for a moment. “I guess I don’t want to get rusty, but… new chapter, yes?”

Willow nodded with a sad smile.

“So. I have to ask what is your opinion in the Ensign from HR?”

Her mouth shifted to a smirk and Dira took a sip of her drink. “Well, luckily for you I’m a telepath and so I can dispel the myth that Ensign Charlie’s demeanour is fake.” She leaned in towards Willow. “She’s actually that personality!” she said with a light laugh. “I for one love it, but I can understand if others find it grating at times. You may have to order her to tone down the enthusiasm a tad on occasion.”

The corners of the captains mouth turned inward slightly. As if she had just tasted something sour. “I was afraid you were going to say that. I may have to order her off to sickbay for some ADHD treatments…I mean she appeared with coffee at my quarters this morning at 5am…5…am…I wasn’t even on duty I was going for a run!” She ran her hands through the mop of short red hair on her head, leaving it looking windswept and interesting aka sticking up in odd directions.

Dira snorted. “Setting clear boundaries will go a long way. She’ll probably appreciate them too,” she said before taking a bite of her sandwich. “Just make it clear what is and isn’t acceptable with you and firmly but kindly reinforce those boundaries. She’ll get it,” she said with confidence.

Willow smiled. “I sent her off to keep track of Cai and I haven’t seen her since so I am hopeful he’s giving her a run for her money.” She chewed another mouthful of her food. “Have you had time to visit the recreation areas?”
