Kane nodded, but didn’t smile. He looked down and inspected Soulis and then said “Aha, there you are.” when he spied the wrist band. He held up Soulis’s arm and looked at the man. “Don’t worry… the pain will subside in a few days. Oh, it’ll get a hell of a lot worse over the next few hours, but after that it’ll fade. Three days, you’ll be fine… well… as fine as you can be.” He looked up at the chronometer. “And there is the mark. Now it really is irreversible. Some high grade antibiotics could have halted it before now, but again… you didn’t think, you just reacted. So… I’m gonna send you back to… wherever the hell you came from now. And don’t come back, okay? This-” and he gestured around at the situation, “- this was your free pass. You come back again… I might actually want to make you suffer. Toodles, Soul-patch.” and he activated the wrist band.

Soulis’s scream was cut off in a swirl of transporter lights.

Kane looked at the spot a moment and then looked at Alexis. “C’mon… let’s get you fixed up. Good thing your man is a doctor.”

Alexis watched him disappear in the swirl of lights. She felt…lighter, or maybe just light headed and then it simply wasn’t a concern for her anymore. She nodded through clenched teeth as she began to walk towards the door with him. She was standing upright, but had to concentrate to move. She bit back a moan, “Then I should tell my doctor I don’t think I have a very high pain tolerance.” She followed him through the ship to their quarters, and once there she sat heavily on the bed, grateful no one stopped them.

Kane didn’t say a word, he just grabbed his emergency medical bag and pulled out the medical tricorder and began scanning Alexis. After a few moments, he closed it and retrieved a dermal regenerator and an osteo regenerator. Putting the latter on her arm and the former on her cheek, he eased her back onto the bed. “Rest a while. You’ll be ok.” and he turned the lights down (not off) and went towards the other room. He stopped at the door and turned to look at her.

Alexis held as still as she could while he worked, but it was a huge relief when he helped her lay back. She was physically exhausted from the pain, she was coming off a large dose of adrenal overload, and the sudden release of long carried tension. She closed her eyes and then realized how battered and bruised she was. Rest and she’d be okay. She really didn’t feel okay at the moment…

“You did amazing today, Lex. Seriously… Im impressed.” and he went into the other room.

Kane, CSO

For some reason that made her smile. She must be slightly delirious from the pain, that had to be it, but his words made her smile. “I’m still mad at you. And I’m going to be madder if you don’t give me something for the pain.” Oh…was she being one of those doctors that made a bad patient? She really didn’t care, she hurt.

Kane chuckled. “Give it ten minutes and you’ll be okay. No breaks, just soft tissue injuries and some torn ligaments. Nothing we can’t handle and nothing needing pain killers. But…” and he walked back in and pulled out a hypospray and dialed in something. “Here.” and he pressed the device to her neck and gave her a dose of anti-inflammatory. “That’ll at least take the edge off.” He dropped the hypo back in the bag and then moved the bag to the closet. Walking back to the door, he said “Dinner is in an hour.” and the door slid closed behind him.

Well that was reassuring, it was nothing serious but it hurt. Alexis was a little frustrated with that…she was such a wuss. She knew that sometimes soft tissue injuries hurt worse than broken bones, but d@&n. Then the anti-inflammatory kicked in and the regenerators were well on their way to doing their job. Pain and soreness from being tossed around, dropped into a pitch black room…told to keep her mouth shut…and now months, probably years, of tension and stress were all gone. The sudden release was overwhelming, she crashed hard, and an hour later, she was still asleep.
