“Hey Bonner. Let’s go already.” he said loudly across the lab.

She looked up at him, nodded, and grabbed the only PaDD now sitting on her work station. She walked towards him and passed him the PaDD as they walked out the door. It was the logs for ‘Eden’s Apple’ with a note, ‘Finished except for the chemical analysis of the fruit.’

“That’s my girl…” Kane said and grinned slightly. “We have four hours till fabrication is done. However will we kill that much time, I wonder?” and he glanced at the door and said “Let’s go.”

She walked down the corridor towards the lift with him. Warmth spread quickly through her, his girl. There was safety in those words, and she didn’t want to think on it too much. Not right then. Foregoing him there was security from heartache of her previous attempts at dating, in the little things he did to keep the dark away. And safety from…her mind ran through all the myriad of nick names Solomon had come up with and it taking some of the weight away…safety from this situation. She trusted Solomon, she couldn’t play the game but he could. “3 hours till I have to pick Frigga up, 5 hours till the chemical tests are done. And then two or three more till the lab is empty so I can work on the pneumolysin.”

She blushed, she knew exactly how he was thinking about spending that time, but she was starting to feel comfortable enough to tease him, a little. “I paid up on our second dinner and you haven’t taught me that card trick yet. AND it’s been over a week since you said you’d teach me Mandarin. You said I’d disappoint you if I took a week to learn, but I’m blaming you since you are a slow teacher.”

As they stepped onto the empty lift and the doors closed, Kane dropped a hand onto her butt and squeezed. “Oh, I think there are pluses to being slow and methodical. I’ll have to show you when we get back.” and the doors opened onto their deck and Kane removed his hand. “So let’s see… okay, try this.” He spoke slowly and with attention to diction and tone. “我是你的，你是我的.” (I am yours and you are mine) “Try that. Go slow.” and he put his hand on the small of her back and steered her gently towards their room.

She was not expecting that, at all. She jumped slightly, half turned and half attempted to bat his hand away. She looked up at him, mouth opening and then closing. The blush was quick in coming this time, instead of delayed. The doors opened and she stepped off the lift, and despite her bashfulness she was content to stay with him. She listened carefully. She recognized the word for ‘I’ and ‘you’ but not the others. “”我…是…你…的，你…是…我…的.” There was a pause in the middle as his hand rested on the small of her back. She listened to herself as she repeated it, she wasn’t happy with the word after I and you, and she repeated it again, “我…是…你…的，你…是…我…的.” Her smiled as the conjugation of the pronouns to possessives clicked in her head. “I like that one.”
