“Quite a sight isn’t it?” Kyle said aloud, though it was aimed at no one in particular, “Do you mind if I try out the Security station?”

-Lieutenant Kyle Anders: Security Officer-

Dira gestured with a brown hand to the station. “By all means, take a look,” she said, giving the Lieutenant on duty a wink. “Though, what’s that Terran expression, you break it you buy it?” she said with a light laugh.

Kyle chuckled, “I assure you ma’am, you’re in safe hands!” Anders nodded politely to the on duty officer and took over at the station. It took the young man a few seconds to adjust to the space between controls; this particular console was slightly smaller than the one Kyle had been used to on the Challenger, but Anders knew that if he kept at it, he’d get his head around it eventually, “Comfy fit,” he said, looking up to the Commander.

-Lieutenant Kyle Anders: Security Officer-

“Everything does seem well considered,” Myqian agreed. “And since you’ve had bridge experience before, I’m sure Lieutenant Haven would put you in the rotation if you asked her to. If she hasn’t already, of course.”

“I’ll have a word, although I must admit, patrol offers a nice change of pace.” Kyle couldn’t help but chuckle at this, though he couldn’t work out why.

-Lieutenant Kyle Anders: Security Officer-

Dira just sighed. “Am I going to have to have a chat with the whole department? I mean really.” And while there was a seriousness to her voice, there was also a glimmer in her ebony eyes. “Lieutenant, I’m going to share a bit of advice I shared with your supervisor. You are serving on medical ship. And if you’re not aware, health professionals tend to be slightly superstitious about the busyness or lack thereof about their place of work. Just like a day of action for you is not necessarily a great time, neither is it for health folks. So do us a favour and embrace this one oddity and never discuss the pace of the ship. Med folks have their own uniques ways of getting revenge, so I’d be cautious if I were you.” Yes, she was teasing, but only slightly.

Kyle could sense the seriousness behind the Commander’s words and nodded sincerely, “Noted ma’am. So, can I escort you on the rest of your rounds?”

-Lieutenant Kyle Anders: Security Officer-

Dira chuckled. “Come on.” She gestured to the turbolift. “Let’s go somewhere else you haven’t been yet? Pick a deck, any deck,” she said with a grin.

“I haven’t seen Engineering yet, I’d love to see how fast this lass can go if you’ll permit me?” Kyle grinned.

-Lieutenant Kyle Anders: Security Officer-

“Engineering is a part of regular rounds I would imagine, so I don’t see why not,” she said with a grin as they reached the lift and stepped in. “Main engineering.”

The lift carried them through the ship to Deck Eleven, now officially on the Secondary hull side of the ship. Dira led Anders through to the main entrance and into a large space. “It’s not your typical engineering space. We’ve got a horizontal core, so it’s not the first thing you see, but it’s viewable through the floor in front of the main console.”

“A bit like those through the floor aquariums you used to get on Earth, where the fish were swimming under you?” It took a few seconds for Kyle to take in all of the mammoth Engineering room before him, he couldn’t help but marvel at the sheer sight of a horizontal warp core at his feet.
