“I can certainly watch them, you two have fun.” Jonathan said as he let the pair take off.

“I’ll see you in a bit.” Mel gave her husband and wink and then gestured for Willow to head out first.

Willow left with a raised hand at Jonathan and waited in a the corridor.

“So, where shall we go? Worse comes to worse, we can always hide out on the triage deck. I bet no one would think to look for you there,” she said with a grin. She wasn’t unaware of the shift in Willow’s emotions, but without reading her friend’s mind, she had no context and she tried hard to not cross lines with people.

Willow made a face. “I’d try that but there’s a repair crew in dealing with some maintenance. How about the lounge?”

“Works for me,” Mel replied.

Once they had made their way and procured Drinks Willowit seemed was unable to contain herself any longer. She held her hot cup between two hands and finished her story. “ and so there I am. I’m my pyjamas soaked in milk with a literal waterfall gush ofnthe stuff just pours down all over the floor and the guy I know I’m going to promote to CE staring at me.”

She put her head down on the desk and let her short scarlet hair flop forward. “I’m doomed to be The milky bar captain from now on.”

Mel chuckled, but she wasn’t laugh at Willow. It was more akin to an understanding ‘I’ve been there’ kind of laugh. She reached out and squeezed the captain’s shoulder. “Nah, I doubt it. I know on a ship this small that gossip can travel at warp, but these things often fade. Still, it paints a very vivid image.”

She leaned forward and grinned conspiratorially. “Just think. Maybe there will come a day you’ll have something even more interesting happen for people to talk about. Just be grateful it’s not you having your ship destroyed or you ended up being shot on the holodeck by a program character who thought you were a Changeling spy,” Reez said with a knowing grin.

“It gets better, I promise. This awkward phase of being the new CO will end and you’ll figure out how you fit into it all. I just can’t promise nothing embarrassing won’t happen again.”
