Achilleas turned to look at the newcomer and his slightly stern visage softened as he couldn’t help but grin. “Of course. As this is clearly a work responsibility I can’t help but make time.” His grin disappeared as he looked back at the male Vulcan. “You will excuse me as I’m clearly needed. If you’d like to wait or perhaps come back in a half… no, make that an hour, I can likely accommodate you then.”

He didn’t give them a chance to answer as he turned back to Alexis. “Please join me in my office Lieutenant.” He invited before heading into the office first.

CSO Petrakos

Alexis walked past the Vulcan reporter and into Petrakos’ office and the door swished shut behind her. “Thank you Lt.” She looked from him to the closed door. She didn’t think he minded the interruption but she wasn’t a great judge of body language. She passed him an iso chip, “My new orders. I’m being transferred to your department. Medical research.”

Achilleas took the offered chip before he took a seat at his desk and motioned for Alexis to sit at the chair across from him. He didn’t look at the contents of the chip but at Alexis instead as he said. “I’m more than happy to welcome you to the department, but I must admit I’m confused on why the change.”

CSO Petrakos

They had drilled Alexis in this, it had to be believable. And at least they had kept it simple. “Most people were. I do love medicine but after this sabbatical, I found I really LOVE the constant research and fewer interruptions. I really get a lot done. I’m horrible with people so I still get to contribute to the medical field this way.”

Achilleas tilted his head slightly in confusion. “Can you not do medical research in the medical department or even at Starfleet Medical? I’m sure there is many accommodating positions like that open.” Truth be told with everything going on and his getting the department settled in on the new ship, he wasn’t aware that Alexis had left the ship briefly. He was under the impression that this was a simple, if confusing, department change.

CSO Petrakos

What Alexis had wanted was to get away from Intel back to the ship, she’d be safe here. At least she knew the people. “I suppose I could have. But I wanted to come back to Ogawa and with my sudden research sabbatical, when I returned someone else had been put in place as AMO.” She was happy for that person. She had not met them but she understood the benefit of working under Cmdr Walker and was happy they had found someone, who was probably better with people than herself, to take the position. “I was given several options for when I returned. I choose medical research, but the specifics are a bit up in the air. That term encompasses a lot.” She didn’t want to sound like she was bragging but he could put her anywhere. A general purpose lab would suite her purposes just fine and she could literally work on anything because she could design her space as she needed. But she wanted to help the ship as well.

Achilleas nodded slowly as he thought. “Well we have plenty of lab space, so I don’t see any problem getting you an area to work from. We recently finished inventorying all of the available equipment and supplies, so get me a list of what you want and I’ll see that you get it. What research area were you thinking of diving into?”

CSO Petrakos

“I have degrees in general medical practice, general surgery, xenobiology and genetics. Anything that relates to improving those areas. Do we have anything like R&D? Obviously the research we have but the development of treatments, equipment, medicines, etc.” She paused thinking about it, “I really like the idea of doing more hands on research rather than theoretical. Honestly Lt as long as it keeps me busy I am willing to go where ever. Stick me in one lab this week and I can move to another and back again as needed. Not a brag, but honest. I do better when I have a lot of work.”

“I’ll try and keep you busy then.” Achilleas said with a grin. “We’ll get you a place to call your own and I’ll let the various specialties know of your availability. That way you can float between the various projects but still have your own work area.”

CSO Petrakos

Alexis wasn’t overly expressive, especially when she was focused on her work, but Petrakos would get the distinct impression that his words were like Christmas and she was internally clapping and bouncing happily at the prospect. “Thank you Lt. I am really eager to get back to work. I do have my other check-ins to finish and to get Frigga checked-in and a work schedule for her as well. Is there anything I can do before I get that done?”

“Until we get tasked with something specific we’re pretty much on hold. Everyone is either arranging their work space to their liking or doing other administrative tasks. So go ahead and get your other obligations taken care of first and then we’ll get you settled in and arranging your own nook.” Achilleas said with a sardonic grin. The down time between missions gave them the time to finish up data analysis or any experiments they had running, but when there was literally nothing to do the time just moved so slowly.

Alexis was eager to finish checking in and then get settled in a lab space. She had her own research that would keep her busy in the meantime, but....”Just one question, what’s going on with the media crew in the lab?” That could create a problem if Intel sent her work.
Lt Bonner

At this question Achilleas sighed. “Since we’re a medical ship Starfleet has seen fit to send us on an aid mission to Romulan space. During the mission we have a camera crew to observe our every move and somehow we have to make it…” He did a jazz hand movement to emphasize this point. “Snazzy. I think I heard something about this being for the purpose of recruitment videos or some such.”

Alexis looked…frustrated. “Ah…I am…not good with people Lt.” He’d know that, they’d had many awkward conversations in the gym. “But I shall do my best to be polite.” So no intel work until the camera crew was gone, or she had to at least be careful what she worked on. Then her mind clicked over, “Many of our medications are not good matches for Romulan physiology. They are easily adapted however, but it does take time. Do we know if their water rations are low? I could configure emergency water rations for an electrolyte solution that is optimal for Romulan physiology as well.”

“That’s a great suggestion. I have no idea of the situation on-site but it’s never a bad idea to prepare before we get there. Liaise with medical after you get sorted and see if you can get some necessities produced before we arrive.” Achilleas replied with an appreciative look. “As for the not being good with people… well, cooperate as long as it doesn’t interfere with your duties and unless they have any ridiculous requests. We can’t really avoid it altogether.”

CSO Petrakos

Alexis nodded, “I’ll do my best, Lt. And I’m on my way to medical now, anyway. With your permission, Lt, I will go finish settling in.”
