Myqian winked at Aizala, giving the woman time to decide what she wanted to do. “I don’t mind being on camera,” she said, flashing a grin. Dira was a confident woman and at ease in the presence of others, making her probably one of the more ideal members of the crew to film, and probably one of the ones to cause them the least amount of headaches… so long as they played by the rules.

Aizala smiled gratefully at Dira and then took a small step to the side. She wasn’t sure if she wanted to get interviewed. So maybe watching the First Officer’s interview would give her an idea how hers might go and thus help her make a decision based on that.

Dira herself was sociable enough that the prospect of being interviewed in this way didn’t bother her. She moved to the makeup station. “A little on the eyes and lips is fine with me. But don’t worry about the skin. I prefer it bare.” Her Haliian-granted bulges and indentations around her forehead and nose made makeup a little tricky and since she didn’t feel she needed, she never bothered.

Preem lead Dira to one of the make up stations where an overly chatty woman with big curly black hair held back by a bright pink head band went to work. She draped a cloak over the XOs shoulders and poofed, teased, dabbed, highlighted, filled, contoured, and every other technique she could imagine, all while smacking her chewing gum. In the end though she was mostly respectful of Dira’s wishes. Her natural features were accentuated so that they would be more clear on camera.

Once she was ready, Dira made her way over to one of the chairs.

Waiting at the interview station was Preem, having decided to do this interview herself she waited until Dira was seated then adjusted the focus on one of the cameras, fiddled with the light, held up a small contraption next to Dira’s face and then nodded. She was silent then for a moment and pressed a button on her PaDD before asking gently, “Please, state your name and position.”

When prompted, Myqian took a calming breath and smiled softly. “I’m Commander Dira Myqian and I’m the Ogawa’s first officer. But this is my first time in the role. Not that long ago I was actually a practicing psychiatrist and I have been for twenty years.” She paused and lifted a hand, turning her index fingers, looking amused. “Had been, technically. I’m still licensed though I’m not longer practicing. Command is my career path now and it’s quite exciting to get to do so on such a magnificent ship with a very obviously talented crew.”

“I see,” the interviewer said before moving on to the next question, “Now could you comment on why you came to Ogawa? Was the transfer requested or were you sent here? What is it about the crew that makes them so talented?”

Dira smiled. “Well, this is where I was assigned. Command was working out where my first stint as an XO was going to be and the Ogawa had a sudden vacancy they needed to full. Given my background in psychiatry, it just made too much sense. As for the crew, well, it’s a medical ship, so the people brought together are often specialists in their fields. The mission of the ship is one that is going to be so much easier to fulfill on this new Nightingale-class ship then it was on the old one. More people with more varied experience and expertise means we can handle all sorts of situations.” It was personal, but Myqian was ‘selling’ the ship as they were told to.

“Can you go into that a little more? The diversity of missions and how the crew’s diversity helps with that?” Preem asked as she took some notes and turned the page.

While Dira was getting ready, Aizala had moved slightly further into the cargo bay till she found a place where she was out of the way, but could see and hear what was going on.

The stylist came up behind Aizala while Preem and Dira were talking and sighed heavily before looking to the doctor, “So what do you think, sugar? Going to get your picture on the big screen?”

Turning her head to look at the stylist instead, Aizala replied, “I’m not sure yet. It never even crossed my mind till now that anyone might be interested in filming me. I’m simply a doctor after all. Not much of interest to report about me.” If they really wanted her to, she probably wouldn’t say no, but for now she preferred not to make a decision either way and to observe instead.

“Oh sugar,” the stylist said said with a friendly pat on the shoulder, “You are a member of the crew aren’t ya? They want to talk to everyone. Everyone has a story to tell don’t you know?” She walked over to the table and picked up a cheese danish, “Mr. Golfink doesn’t like shy people. Everyone is a star he says. Everyone deserves their story told.”
