“Well ma’am, considering my brief stint as Chief of Security on the Challenger during my training cruise, I’m looking forward to getting my hands dirty again rather than providing reports to the Captain, though she was a fine commanding officer. I do however, understand that a medical ship may not always provide the same level of high stakes Security missions that, say, a ship like the Atlantis may offer.” Kyle had never been so formal in a conversation before so decided to lighten the mood, “I can’t promise I won’t start doing parkour all over the ship though, those acrobatics skills have got to come from somewhere.” He winked.

Myqian laughed. “Ahh, you’re going to fit right in just nicely I think,” she said with a nod. “Honestly, after the hallucinogenic fungus swept over the starbase, weird takes on a different meaning on this ship, especially after the crew of the old ship barely escaped a subspace bubble that landed in the middle of some sort of soap opera show the captain likes.” She pressed a finger to her lips. “Shhh! It’s not a secret, but we try to give Captain Taylor the sense she has some dignity left.”

“Suffice to say that the Ogawa might not be quite the quiet assignment you think it might. The last few missions have been rather… eventful, o say the least,” the XO remarked.

Commander Myqian, XO

Kyle nodded thoughtfully, “Looks like I have some light reading to do in my down time. If I can get access to those reports of course,” a thought crossed Anders’ mind and he added, “Opera, is Captain Taylor fond of various forms of music?”

-Lieutenant Kyle Anders: Security Officer-

Dira laughed lightly. “She might be, but the opera I’m talking about is a visual form of media. A soap opera, from my understanding, is a serialized drama that has over the top and exaggerated characters and storylines. And every improbably event can and will likely happen. It pure entertainment, but if there is one thing you don’t get to do around here it’s put people down for their choice of stress-reduction.” She flashed Anders a grin. “But that doesn’t mean a first officer can’t tease her captain here and there. It’s in the rulebook.”

Commander Myqian, XO

Kyle nodded thoughtfully for a moment, “Aye, I think I’m familiar, in fact I think I took part in a few holodramas based on them during my downtime at the Academy,” adding on to the XO’s further comment he added, “I’d expect nothing less from a pairing like yours, I’ve heard great things about work on the Ogawa.”

She laughed again but it was mostly in her throat. “Well, I’ve only just gotten on board the ship myself. I arrived after the previous ship met a rather unfortunate end that left its crew stuck on Starbase. I’ve been winging this XO thing since I’ve arrived. But the captain and I have a good rapport,” she said openly. If the opposite was true, of course she wouldn’t have said anything about it, her sense of professionalism being so high.

Stepping into the life, Dira waited till Anders had joined her and called out, “Command Centre.” The life immediately moved upwards.

Turning to the young but experienced officer, she had to admit she was curious about his last posting. “You know, never got to have a cadet cruise experience. I’m curious what yours was like, and also about becoming a department head under those conditions.”

Commander Myqian, XO

Kyle chuckled as if remembering, “It was all… quite quick. One minute, you’d be gaining a rapport with one group of officers you were overseeing, the next you would be introducing yourself to an entirely fresh faced group of people. I must admit, going backwards and forwards between Earth and wherever the Challenger was sent off to, became somewhat tedious eventually, but I do understand that the Academy requires a quick turn around.”
