With a nod, Dira found a spot at the corner of the desk to sit on and gave Alexis an appraising look. Bonner had already done what she had intended to, by erasing the message, but she had to admit to being surprised by the forcefield. Then again at this point she knew better than to expect anything but more surprises. Anything less was foolish. Her dark eyes searched for Bonner’s and Dira let out a small sigh. “How are you, Alexis? Where are you at?” Dira wasn’t sure how she would approach this situation at first but as she had walked to the lab, she understood that despite the pips and the colour of her uniform, she was still a psychiatrist and would approach people differently. She was finding her balance between her former job and her new one but it was clear a mix of the two was needed here.

Commander Myqian, XO

Alexis didn’t appear to be focused on the XO at all. She was scrolling at an amazing speed through items on her console, picking up other PaDDs and making notations with a stylus and moving to the next, with no apparent rhyme or reason. “I am very busy and very determined.” There was confusion, fear, uncertainty, nervousness, self-consciousness, and paranoia. But these were things either Alexis was unwilling or unable to acknowledge and process. She looked at her console and at the PaDD she was holding and back, scrolling very slowly for a moment and then shook her head wiped the PaDD and put the now empty PaDD in a drawer. “And right now, I am at the very beginning of the puzzle.”

Myqian watched her work both as a way to take back control of the situation and also to avoid things. That wasn’t unexpected. Dira reached out, and she hesitated for a brief moment (mostly not sure how Alexis would react), but after a moment, she rested her hand on Bonner’s. It was a gentle touch, but enough contact that it would register. “It’s okay Alexis, we’ll figure this out together, alright?”

Commander Myqian, XO

Alexis glanced up from the PaDD she’d been scanning. She understood the sentiment, or at least she thought she did, but she also knew Myqian’s first responsibility was the ship, not some crazy smart doctor turned researcher that had no value other than her mind. She had no value as an individual, Ever and Soulis had taken those early memories of being a misunderstood and strange child and turned it into fact that all she had was her mind. Normally Alexis ignored such things as Myqian’s touch to her hand, but that was the XO and she couldn’t ignore her. There was flash of jumbled emotions and memories as Alexis glanced at her. She shrugged. “I am a pawn Cmdr.” She went back to the PaDDs and then suddenly a large diagram of the Vitruvian Man appeared as a 3D model and she spun it and overlaid another diagram with it and then it was gone. “He wants something from me. I just have to figure out what.”

Myqian inhaled a deep and slow breath and considered Bonner. Moving around the back of the workstation, Dira peered on the back and snagged a stool, bringing it around next to Alexis, but giving her some space. Settling on to the stool, she rested her arm on the corner of the table. “I know I didn’t get the whole story, that there are parts missing. And we don’t know each other well enough at this point that I feel I have the right to ask you about him, but I do know people like him, Alexis. He might be treating you like a pawn, but you aren’t. You are a person with the capacity to make their own decisions. And the best part is that you’re here on the Ogawa, and here you’re not alone. You don’t have to do this alone and more importantly, you should know we won’t let you.”

“The job of the XO is to ensure the safety and security of the crew.” Alexis sounded like she was literally reading from the manual. “If you feel you must ask then ask.” She didn’t really know how to take that. No one really took notice of Alexis long enough to see her as a person or get to know her, except Solomon, but that left her confused. But she did notice he had not arrived at the lab yet… She was sure the Myqian ‘meant’ well but it was unnecessary. “Being on the Ogawa is not a vote in favor of your argument Cmdr. Though I think you mean with and not on. This not the first time he has accessed the crew and approached me. It will not be the last. Based on structural damage, blood staining, and body mass ratio of Lt Kane to him I can safely say that I have roughly five days while he recovers from his injuries before he begins watching me in earnest again, and I have already lost one day.” She recorded notes from one padd to another and then wiped and discarded two additional padds while they talked. Frigga had become alert and watching Alexis intently but didn’t move from her spot.
