Alexis returned to the lab before she had to, which wasn’t all that surprising. The lab was where Alexis could be herself. No one bothered her and she didn’t bother anyone else. She loved being a doctor, she was good at it, but as she’d admitted her bedside manor was severely lacking, though that had never garnered too many complaints. But here she could work, she could lose herself in it. Here she could control her environment. She made a small corner for Frigga under table with small things to occupy the pup until she either had to work, or Alexis took her for her next walk. Then she turned on her console, spread about 20 PaDDs across her table. “GALEN sound dampening field around my work station please.” And a passable barrier shimmered to life. The pods stayed in their box. She was smart, she’d figure this out. What was she working on that got his attention? Because she absolutely did not believe he was simply interested in her. He’d burned that illusion to ashes 3 years ago. He wanted something she was working on. And once she found it, she’d contact her … boss? at Intel. She’d struck a bargin and she’d kept her end, they hadn’t. ‘The secret is don’t play.’ Okay then…

A short while later, the lean form of the ship’s XO stepped into the lab. Holding a PADD, she wore a smile on her face, but it was smaller than it usually was when interacting with the crew. Dira was taking everything in as she approached, making sure to be in Bonner’s line of vision and not startle her. “Lieutenant?” she said lightly. “Got a minute?” She didn’t know about the dampening field, but she sure as hell knew how jumpy you could be after something terrifying had happened.

Commander Myqian, XO

Alexis didn’t look up she was so far down the rabbit hole of back checking previous research that she didn’t look up. The dampening field meant she didn’t hear Myqian come in. Alexis had no skill in blocking telepaths but her intense focus acted like a barrier. So Dura would know the extreme level of determination to find what she was looking for, but not the emotions behind it. Frigga, however did notice the XO. The field worked on her too but it didn’t affect her sense of smell or her eyes. This woman wanted Alexis’ attention. She got up and padded over to Alexis and tugged on her sleeve several times before Alexis finally looked up. She spoke but Dura wouldn’t hear her. Finally Alexis made a beckoning motion for the Cmdr to join her. Once through the field, “Good morning Cmdr. I didn’t know anyone else worked this early. I suppose you are here because I didn’t file a security report?” Alexis wasn’t stupid, slow to consider other points of view and remember protocol because it wasn’t related to her work, and seemingly absent minded, but she wasn’t stupid. She also knew Solomon had been gone the previous morning and had returned just as she woke up. She could take an educated guess, with the XOs appearance, where he had gone.
