And they have breached the security and integrity of a brand new, top of the line star ship while there is press and a metric s%$# ton of eyes on it. So yeah… go ahead and make all the assignments you want. Change up duty rotations and put more Security out in the passageways. See how long it takes the conspiracy theorists and foreign intelligence agencies to spot that little up tick. And then you and the Skipper can explain it all to the Admiralty Board. I’m sure you’ll both be very happy in your next assignments… probably doing rectal swabs on a Andorian shingles colony.”

It was like the more outwardly angry he got, the calmer Dira got. “You’re still not hearing me,” she said quietly with a slight shrug. “And I think you don’t want to. You want to be angry, and you are angry at them. But they aren’t here, so you’re taking it out on me. I’m a big girl though, you don’t scare me,” she said, her tone now holding a tiny bit of an edge. She hadn’t retreated as he aggressively encroached on her space. Not even a twitch. Was it bravado? Was she frozen in place by the intense affect of his emotions on her sensitive telepathic mind? Dira wasn’t about to let that be known. “I’d like to share something with you that might reframe all of this better, so that we can help Alexis, but you need to sit your a$$ down and shut your mouth for two seconds and listen to something more than you want to hear.”

Kane slowly stood up, but simply crossed his arms on his chest and just shook his head. “You’re an idiot if you think this is just about Alexis… but go ahead. I’m always up for a laugh.”

A flicker of pain slipped through the mask, lasting an ever so brief moment before it was tucked away safely. Dira stared at him, the moments expanding outwards. Finally, she shook her head. “No, forget it” she said flatly. “By all means, do leave now.” And much like before, it was not a request.
