“Okay, question one what is your favorite place to vacation at? I feel like we may need shore leave here so I think I really want to know where you like the most.” Jon said, starting simple and hoping to finally get past the awkward beginning he dug himself into.

Reez, CoP

Vacation, it wasn’t something she did often. THinking back, Zoi couldn’t remember how long it had been since her last one. While that particular saying was often spoken between friends, it really was accurate for her. Between her work at StarFleet and her mother’s care, she spent very little time relaxing. Of the very few vacations she had enjoyed, there was mountain cabins and beach resorts, Cruise ships and Festivals. “I guess I would have to say going to an ocean side resort. Warmth, sun, the sound of ocean waves, sand between your toes, salty sea air, drinks from a good looking server, spa massages in a gazebo. You?”

Haven, Sec

“I don’t know really… work family… it kinda all saps time. When I was younger I fell in love with Betazed. I spent so much of my younger years there, trained there stationed there, fought there. I often miss some of the beaches, or sprawling cities, it was always a warm culture. They didn’t understand deceit like many would cause everyone could sense what everyone else thought. It made for such an honest society in some ways. Some might find that scary but, I don’t know I found it liberating to not hide so much.” Jon answered, thinking back as a smile formed over his face.

“So, I asked the first question, do you want to ask a brand new one or should I just continue seeing what I can find out about someone as lovely as you?” he asked her, hoping she would be game to play along with him.

Reez, CoP

She grinned. While she didn’t really have any idea what it was like being completely open to a multitude around you, she did understand the feeling of home. That seemed to be what Betazed was for the Counselor. Zoi didn’t think she would agree with it feeling liberating. She did have some precognitive, extra sensory perception, but it was nowhere near on the level of a Betazoid.

At his question, she shook her head. “No, no. It is my turn to actually ask the question. We just make sure we both answer the questions given. Hmmm.” She sat back and thought about what she might ask him, casually sipping her wine. Finally, she leaned forward. “Alright. Favorite books/materials to read?”

“Good question, I grew up reading classics from Earth, mostly things my mom loved. Well… I assume she loved. When she died I found the stash of books she had and in some ways it was a way to connect. My father said she loved them, and I have to take his word. Still, knowing they were hers, reading the same paper she read. She had a variety books from Earths history. I enjoyed them all but I guess if I had to pick one over the others at least a child was the Michael Crichton novels. I grew to like so many other books and authors but they always had this sense of wonder, horror, and suspense. Despite being nearly 300 years old I still find them easy to relate to.” Jon said, almost absent minded smiling. His mother had such a large collection though that he could have gone for months on end reading old and new.

“What about you? Any page turners you love?” he said, taking a drink he settled in, the bumpy start seeming to fade as the two just got comfortable getting to know each other. It was what Jon had meant all along, and he regretted deeply his silly start.

Reez, CoP

She had never heard of Michael Crichton and his novels. Being 300 years old, she could see why. There were many classics she had read in her many years, but not that set. His smiling made her smile. She liked seeing people happy this way. Memories could be a powerful force for good as well as bad but she didn’t like inadvertently triggering negativity so it was nice her questions had thus far not had any. “Maybe I shall have to read one. I have never heard of him. I liked Isaac Asimov and strangely enough Jane Austen… if we are going with what is considered classic literature.”

Haven, Sec

“Those to, she had the old earth novels as well as the newer stuff, her books spanned nearly 600 years. Each one unique and interesting. It was her passion, and I loved dwelling in something she loved.” he said, he hadn’t really ever talked about this to anyone but Mel. His mother was never a topic he broached often to others.

Reez, CoP

“It is actually quite common for someone to enjoy other people doing or exploring their passion. I may not like beer terribly much but I love hearing someone talk about it if it is their passion. An astrophysicist could speak to me for hours on something in which they really truly enjoyed the subject. People tend to want you to love what they do. And if they love what they do, the tend to overshare on the subject.” She smiled a bit. “I think your mother would be pleased that her son shares some of her passion.”

Haven, Sec

“I hope so… so… questions. Perfect first date, before you say no consider it… research. If giving a chance I may have to do much better in the future and if not I just get to learn something new and interesting about you… It’s a win win.” Jonathan said, smiling at her as he wondered how far she would go along with the question.

Reez, CoP

Her eyebrows shot up. Äre you asking if this was a perfect first date or are you asking me what I consider to be the perfect first date?”

Haven, Sec

“What you think is one, god… not that this is a date… we established it isn’t… but if it was it’s been far from perfect. I want to know what you think though is a perfect date… or just outing we can keep it informal.”

Reez, CoP

She grinned at him as he back tracked and flustered. She definitely could keep him on his toes. For someone who was a psychiatrist, it was interesting to see how little grasp he had over the situation. Öctober 31st.” She responded and then ate a bite of her food. She knew that wasn’t what he was asking, but she was amused at pretending she had taken the word date to be literal.

“What’s yours?”

Haven, Sec

“I am quite fond of February 29th, it’s rare like a unicorn and most people forget it exists.” Jon said as he took a swig of his drink as he smiled at her. It wasn’t quite what he expected, but he did like her spunk quick witness.
