The young surgeon sat at the bar in the lounge studying the contours of the ice cube at the bottom of his whiskey. His eyes closed for a moment. This is the best I can do for a night on the town now. I guess the Drake who was a lover of life is gone. He lifted the glass and drained it. He motioned for another. I have one friend. And his name is Jameson. “Thank you.” He said to the bartender as he watched the brass coloured fluid fill the glass. He tapped the rim of the glass a few times before taking a sip.

The Antican came into the lounge and took a seat down the bar away from everyone. He smiled self-consciously at the bartender, his sharp canine teeth flashing and then he quickly covered his mouth and looked away. When asked, he ordered a Antican Special, whatever that was. The bartender turned and made a mildly disgusted face, but went and put several chunks of something deep red, some small bits of white pellet-shaped things, lemon grass, and then a dark red liquid into a blender. He fired it up, let it run for ten or fifteen seconds, and then poured the conglomeration into a tall steel container and took it down to the figure. As he walked away, he made the face again.

Anisha came into the lounge, bee-lined to the replicator, got a tall glass of some transparent liquid and then went to the far end where the floor-to-ceiling windows were, looking out over the stars flitting by in warp speed.
She stepped so close to one of the windows that her glass almost touched it and looked out, standing still as a stone pillar.
