That was news to Myqian but she lit up at the idea. “I think something like that would be very fitting, actually. A good proper marking point for the new crew, something to unify everyone together. If I have any concerns it’s the old crew merging with so many new people for the first time, so it could work to our advantage.”

Willow raised her eyebrows. “Thats an amazing idea. A very good idea in fact, do you think that we should organise for the new lounge or take the hospitality of the starbase slightly longer.” she asked both.

“I don’t see why you couldn’t do both. Have the crew on the starbase at first to look at the new Ogawa while you smash it with a bottle of something expensive, then move everyone onto the ship for the first official party. It’s not like you’ll be leaving right away once everyone boards, so any hangovers can be safely slept through.” Matt grinned as he was stirring to the idea of a free bar of drinks.

Dira raised her right hand with a pointed index finger. Good plan. I vote for that one,” she said with a gleam in her dark eyes.

Ensign Charlie bounded over. “I can have a celebration organised in forty minutes.” she said cheerily. Willow frowned slightly at her and then dipped her ice tea. “Thank you ensign…maybe just hang fire a few seconds.”

Charlie blinked the grin never fading. “You want hanging fire…well that might take me a little longer sir. I organised balloons and banners in the event you’d want them not flaming things but I can do that…” she began tapping away at her PaDD

“Oh Ensign, can have the hull of the Ogawa catch on fire in a message saying something like ‘Welcome to the crew of the Ogawa! May you never have to ram your way out of another dimension again!’? That seems especially apt I think.” Matt took another sip of his rum and coke. “Though maybe a little too much of a jinx. Maybe change the second sentence to ‘Free drinks and food!’.”

Fleet Captain Matt Evans

Myqian laughed openly. Having not been aboard for the subspace bubble adventure that crippled the previous ship, she could laugh, though others might not.

“Yes sir, immediately sir.” ensign Charlie said and moved off. She was stopped by Willow who shook her head at the confused look on the Ensigns face. “No thank you the party will be more than adequate.”

Matt grinned as Willow countermanded his suggestion. He wasn’t particularly serious with it anyhow, but there was a small part that was curious on whether the Ensign could have a consistent flame present in space. Ah no matter.

Fleet Captain Russell Watt, Assistant Engineering Director entered the meeting room at that point, he heard Matt’s words and said, “Free Food and Drinks, I’ve come to the right place then, ah, Fleet Captain Matt Evans, thought you were in Exile … the infinite Fleet, wasn’t it? Oh wait, you were reassigned, congratulations on the new posting and for surviving your time alone. I’m Russell Watt, the Assistant Engineering Director for the Fleets. I was responsible for the tribbles that went your way out there. A moment if you don’t mind.”

“Ah, then I must thank you Fleet Captain Watt.” Matt said in all seriousness for a moment before he grinned. “They were a great source of sustenance during a trying time. Though I did discover a friend with Roger here.” He pointed out the tribble which had mostly devoured the overcooked chicken wings. “It’s hard to cook tribbles consistently through radiation from a leaking reactor, so he’s come to prefer his food a bit extra crispy.”

“Captain Taylor, Commander Myqian, my team reports all clear, having completed their final checks and its all shiny and working properly. Logistics and Quartermaster also advised that the ship is fully stocked. And Ensign Charlie here is looking after the crew. The USS Ogawa, Nightingale Class is all yours. Enjoy that new ship smell, don’t forget the logbook servicing and avoid meteor showers. The captain of the Hood missed the fineprint that while damage from phasers and torpedoes would be replaced, that the insurance doesn’t cover that from meteor showers. Taking out insurance with that Ferengi firm may not have been the best idea we had.”

Willow smiled at Watt. “That is great news. I think most of the crew are busy checking in and settling.”

“When’s the last of the crew due to arrive?” Dira asked. That would give them an estimate as to the earliest they could expect a their first assignment. After all, check-ins had to happen and there was a lot to coordinate in terms of team management and duty rosters and the like.
