She chuckled slightly and nodded. “Well, for better or worse I don’t think we’ll have to worry about that so much. The current USS Ogawa would fall under those parameters but it’s non-functional and we’re getting a new ship. So there will likely be more tweaking than outright holding bits together. But I’m pretty sure Mason will appreciate your ability to improvise.”

Gerald let out a smile as he was getting to like this First Officer. “That’ll be a welcome change Commander, I can’t as though say I’m accustomed to new and shiny but I welcome the challenge all the same.” He shifted in his seat a little before saying, “What can you tell me about the Chief? Not that I’m asking for gossip, but I figure you know them better than I do and I’d appreciate some idea before I head to the office for my first sit down.”

Another chuckle ensued as Dira leaned back in her seat. “Well, considering I poached him from our mutual previous assignment, you could say we know each other quite well. Lieutenant Mason will respond better to well thought out ideas and honesty about what you can or can’t do. Don’t overpromise but still be prepared to work hard.” She shrugged. “I’m much the same way, actually. And the rest you’re just going to have to find out for yourself,” she said with a warm smile.
