IC: And so it goes. As with all stories they must come to an end and so do ours. In this case the treatment didn’t take long to circulate through the station (and the Ogawa too, just for good measure) treating the infected. All remembered what they had done when they woke up from their strange journey. Some remembered it fondly, others were more than a little embarrassed. In the end there was not lasting medical effects though there were more than a few people who had to work with psychiatry to discuss the inner madness they remembered so fondly.

And of the fungus itself? Through study by the science department revealed it to be a semi-sentient type of algae found on a moon not far from the starbase. While able to feel pain and express thoughts and feelings it wasn’t able to make complex decisions and relied up on the mental capacities of others. When this sensitive organism was exposed to the fever dreams it leveraged those brain waves with its own to project feelings and images into the host. When kept in relative isolation Oscar (or anyone else) could keep a colony of it without any impact to the rest of the crew.

Lastly the family of patient zeros recovered from the cold just fine. The child’s favorite book was still, and would continue to be, Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland, though her mother made sure it was never read in public at least by her, again.
