Having finished her physical, Kyren decided to head directly to Engineering, and find out her duty shift and such. It was also a great way to get to know the snipes, particularly the enlisted, and learn the local scuttlebutt. Her dad had stressed the importance of that when she graduated. “Never take the people below you for granted, they can make you look like a diamond, or they can make you look like a lump of coal.”

So before she even checked in, she had determined to look around. And she was totally flummoxed, seeing how small the compartment really was; then she started browsing the specs and consoles in the empty compartment, waiting for someone to come in. In the mean time, she started reviewing some of the maintenance logs.

A human woman appeared. “Oh. Hi. You must be the new engineer. Welcome aboard! I’m Crewman Diddion.” Before she could explain much else, she made a simple nodding gesture, trying to indicate look behind you. The new Chief was standing behind Kyren.

“I’m guessing, from the introductions that you’re the new Ensign they sent us. I’m Mark Pierce. I’ll be the Chief Engineer you report to while you’re aboard the Ogawa.”

“Ahh, yes s..” Kyren started to say, as she spun on her heels to face the human who would be her new boss. Her antenna locked on, and stiffened briefly as she took the man in. “..sir.” Another ensign! Are you kidding me?

It took her a moment to figure out what the hell she was going to say to this. She was sure there had to be a story behind this. Just had to be one. “Ah… yes, my orders, my orders,” she said, her tongue finally returning to operation, as she extended her padd. “Ensign Kyren, sir. From Andor. Well, not really, I mean… Andorian. Obviously I’m Andorian… I mean…” She took a deep breath, as a cross expression appeared on her face. “I’m going to try to stop being an idiot now, sir, if you don’t mind.”
