“Perhaps”, the nameless captain hummed, “although it shouldn’t be. She turned and approached Cobb closely, practically whispering into his ear. “It’s an android. A synth! Obviously that can’t legally so exist so officially…” She retreated and her voice loudened. “It’s a robot. A robot with a mechanism of… clockwork. It was constructed by an unbearable egotist and unfortunately he had friends in high places… The unit’s memory banks contain a copy of Commander Easterlin’s, that’s the egotist’s, memories.”

Her fingers danced on the heavy lid of the container. “It’s here to integrate among the crew and continue to share the… ‘wisdom’ Easterlin accrued over his life.” The captain shook her head dramatically. “Obnoxious.”

-Crew of the Kelpie-

“A synth?” Cobb’s eyes nearly fell out of his skull. It had been a decade since the uprising but still, the fear and distrust of all synthetic lifeforms was sufficient to declare their existence illegal. And for very good reason, if you asked Zachariah.

But he hadn’t been asked, it seemed. Simply lumbered with one at the command of the ARU and no further instructions on what to do with it. Still, it was now classed as an anomaly and anomalies were their business.

“Right,” he shrugged to the Kelpie’s Captain, while simultaneously nodding for McReady to replace the lid and, for the moment, seal the clockwork creation inside. “Well, it’s a good thing you brought this to us then,” he cleared his throat and attempted to adopt a more officious demeanour. “We can take it from here now.”

An intercaptain nod was returned. “The rest of the brief will of course be in the file. It’s all yours.” The woman in black tapped a code into the containers control panel, prompting the heavy lid to begin decoupling itself from the rest of the cube. She gave an almost concedencing one finger salute before turning and swaggering back into the depths of her ship.

With a wave of his hand to signify that the Kelpie could take their leave, the Captain pounded at his commbadge and hissed =^=Captain Manhattan, Lt Hampton, I need you both in cargo bay 1. Now.=^=

Just as Cobb’s communique concluded, the weighty top of the container shifted itself sideways before flipping out of the way at the box’s side. Within the now illuminated vessel were wood textured body parts layed abreast. Two arms and a leg were visible with more clearly underneath. Each limb ended where it would meet a torso with cogs, springs and ratchets peaking out, begging to be connected to a greater mechanism.

Cobb took an immediate and involuntary step backwards, although the engineer in him could not quite tear his eyes away from the visage being slowly revealed, piece by piece…

Rushing with the heavy equipment, Erve ran inside the Cargo Bay with pulse rifle in hand and the containment kit on his back “Captain?” He had a heavy, tired breathing “What is happening… I came as soon as I could like a woman having birth mid ambulance ride, you know 20th century stuff. Oh good lord.” He then dropped his jaw seeing the synth “is it… what I think it is?”

M. Capt. Erve Manhattan - RCO

“Well,” Cobb began, “Not exactly, it’s…”

William Hampton responded to the call and quickly made his way to cargo bay 1. Stepping in, he surveyed the scene. He saw Cobb and Manhattan, a man he was quickly learning to despise. He walked over to the two. “What seems to be the iss-” He stopped, looking down at the parts before him. “We have an android onboard now? Of course we do.”

“It is not a synth!” the captain hissed, “and I do not want to hear that word used on my ship again. Do I make myself clear?”
By the gods if he didn’t have enough trouble as it was with their current mission fast approaching D-Day and Lt Synthi-er seemingly poking the bear cage every chance she got. The last thing he needed now was for those branches of Starfleet outside of ARU control to hear they had a synth onboard!

“It is a…well…some kind of machine, I believe. Clockwork. Like an old, wind-up marionette,” he continued, the almost whimsical quality of his tone adding no doubt to his own fascination with the thing. “I would like for us to build it please, Mr Hampton.”

Then with a glance towards Manhattan, he added, “Carefully.”

OOC: Bump for anyone :)

Tick-tock. Tick-tock. Something within the container continued to sound without pause.
