OOC: This is after the main briefing and just just before the first away mission.

IC:

Captain made a good point in the meeting about her learning more about the systems on board the Leviathan. She wasn’t surprised, it’s probably why he was the man in charge.
But indeed, this ship was much different then USS Chernov or even Starbase 227. Both now seemed like some dull freighter ship, compared to all the activities going on here.

The short interaction with the anomaly Gen worried her also. It appeared harmless, and even if it was, there are bound to come others, less friendly. It was her job, to keep the ship safe, and she had to know what could go wrong, so she could prepare.

The one who would probably know the most about the ship, would be Lt. Hampton, the CE.

The ship’s computer located him in engineering, so she made her way there.

“Lieutenant Hampton, if I can have a moment of your time. I’d like to learn a bit more about the security measures surrounding the containment units on this ship. More specifically the ones on Level 13, where the most dangerous anomalies are supposed to be kept. If anything happens I’d like the security to have contingency plans at least.”

Lt. Andrea Stone, CE

The ship was finally not two seconds away from flying apart at all times. Leviathan’s chief engineer was pleased with his work, and was sitting at an engineering console facing the warp core. His head was leaned up on his hands which were propped on the console. His momentary period of resting was interrupted by a voice calling his name. It sounded vaguely familiar and Hampton associated with the recent briefing, fantastic, another RTF agent with some meaningless task. He swiveled around towards the person. When his eyes landed on Stone he immediately sat up in his chair and his uninterested posture changed to one of interest. His expression also changed from one of annoyance to one of appreciation. “Oh thank goodness, another starfleet officer.” He said, his tone lighter than normal. “For a second I thought you were about to be one of those insufferable RTF agents who have no restraints and unlimited authority it seems.” He commented, being passive aggressive with no subtle. He gave a slight smile to the Chief of Security. “I would be more than happy to accommodate you chief. ”

He stood up and walked over the a display screen across the room. He pulled up a schematic of deck 13. “I believe everything you need to know is in this file here.” He leaned back against a bulkhead, allowing Stone to inspect the specs. He smirked, it was time to show off. “As for contingency plans, you don’t need to worry chief. I have at least three.” He held up his hand, extending his index finger. “One, I have put deck 13 on the secondary power grid, if the ship loses primary power, those containment fields will stay intact.” He extended a second finger. “Two, have an alarm system that triggers if the containment fields are taken down without being deactivated using a specific code. If somehow an anomaly manages to break through, they will be immediately be detected.” He held up a third finger. “Three, I am working on installing a secondary security field that will be activated in the event of an escape. It will be activated in between the bulkheads and around the door way.” He held a fourth finger. “I have a fouth plan but I have no approval for it at the moment.” He leaned back and allowed the COS to intake the information he had given her.

Lt. William Hampton- CE

Stone was pleasantly surprised. She heard from others the CE… was sometimes hard to work with.

“For how long could the secondary power grid function, if the primary failed completely?” She asked while still studying the schematics. She had seen a smiliar one, but not as detailed.

“Extra force fields at the door sounds great. But would it be possible with time to create a field around the whole room? There could be anomalies strong enough to damage the walls or floor and get out that way.”

She could easily imagine a huge beast with claws that can tear even metal. Or an anomaly that spits acid. Then again some anomalies seemed ghost like, going through walls as if they were not there.

“The walls themselves are standard or reinforced?”

She stopped looking at the floor plan and looked at Hampton. “I don’t know what a fourth plan could be, but if you ask me, i’d build an airlock. If something breaks out, better to get rid of it, then risk endangering the crew. I know the RTF guys want to study them, but some things are simply not ment for human minds.”

Lt. Andrea Stone, COS

Hampton shook his head. “You misunderstand Lieutenant. The force field extends around the entire room, but it is only visible in the doorway.” He grinned at Stone’s second comment. “That is my fourth contingency plan. Build an airlock, now we can’t do that until we get back to Starbase. So in the mean time I was hoping we would be able to build some sort of explosive device which could be activated in order to blow a hole in the hull to create a homemade airlock if you will.” Hampton gave a quick grin. He liked the Chief of Security. She had a good head on her shoulders, and the two clearly had similar thought patterns, which was a rare find for Hampton.

LT. William Hampton- CE

Stone smiled. She didn’t think she’d guess what his fourth plan was. “They say great minds think alike.” She commented.

“I can’t say i’m too thrilled about a bomb that would damage the hull though. It would really have to be the last resort.”

“Like I said, in an event of escape, I’d also rather neutralize the threat. It must be hard to plan ahead, when we don’t even know what will be in there. A gamma or even thalaron radiation emitter might kill carbon based humanoids in minutes, but might even strengthen whatever we lock up. I guess we will have to review our plans each time we capture something unknown, and add to the defence of that containment room when the need comes up. Hope for the best, plan for the worst.” she shrugged.

Lt. Andrea Stone, COS

When most people had smiles that annoyed Hampton. He was much more familiar with making them frown than smile. He had to admit, to nobody but himself, he found the Chief of Security’s smile pleasant. “Yes, He nodded. “Yes they do.”

At Stone’s second comment Hampton nodded again. “That would be the idea. A controlled explosion would be a last resort. I trust it more than radiation simply because I would have total control over the device, whereas radiation can be a fickle thing that once was released, may be hard to contain.” He smiled at Stone’s final comment. A slight gleam in his eye. “Chief, planning for the worst is my specialty.” He walked across main engineering and retrieved a Padd. He returned and began downloading something on it. “Here are the specs.” He said, looking down as he spoke. “Everything you need should be here.” He handed it to her, giving her a smile small.

“Oh and since I have you here. I would like to say I appreciate your conduct at our recent and bizarre briefing.” His expression changed to one of genuine gratitude. “I thought I was going insane, everyone else was okay with an anomaly just floating about the ship.” He winked, “It’s good to know I’m not the only sensible senior staff member here, I was worried for a moment back there.” Yes, Stone was likable, Hampton concluded. Her personality was akin to his, she was very skilled at what she did, and she seemed to be an overall lovely person. Perhaps Hampton could make a friend after all.

Lt. William Hampton- CE

“Thanks, I was just doing my job. To be honest, even though I was briefed on what the job of COS meant on this ship, the mention of anomalies, it still doesn’t quite prepare you for when you have to face the real deal. The fact that some big bad monster was expected, not a little innocent looking girl makes it even more troublesome. We’ll have to be on our toes more then usual.” She half sighed.

“Thanks again for your time and the information. It’s good to know others are concerned about the safety of this ship as well, and working on improving it.” She said and waved with the padd he gave her. “If there’s any new development, or if you need some backing up on the airlock idea, you can count on me.”

With a slight nod, she turned towards the exit. She was glad of talking to the CE, so she could make an opinion of her own about him. Some described him as ‘Trigger happy’. The fact he didn’t approve her radiation idea dismissed that however. Yes playing with something like that was very dangerous and the CE recognized that immediately. Sure placing a bomb on an outer wall was dangerous as well, but it was still something that could be controlled easier, and much more localized. But hopefully, the airlock idea would get approved, and something like that would never be even needed.
