Casela, despite being encouraged to sleep, stayed up. Not the best idea, but at least she was able to keep walking and drowning in glasses of water. She made a not so subtle change this morning. She only used her RTF uniform during RTF training, but she always wore the standard Star Fleet combat/tactical uniform. Today she opted for a basic standard star fleet jacket style uniform in medical blue. She thought about just a basic standard uniform, but with the refit the environment controls were still out of whack. But a standard uniform would now be her new norm. She made one adjustment, loops at the collar to keep her necklace in place, even though this uniform had a high collar. Casela met Cobb for breakfast, as always, despite the pounding head. Though it could be worse if she’d tried to sleep through it. This morning she had work on the counseling deck. She checked on Gen and then, sucking up her embarrassment she questioned the computer for the location of Lt. Kastil. “LT. KASTIL IS IN HOLODECK 2.”

Casela arrived and finding the door unlocked she stepped in and looked around. Doc Fey was doing Thai Chi. Casela wasn’t at liberty to change into a uniform, but she requested a robe and slipped it over her uniform. She slipped off her boots and socks. She walked up to the mat and bowed respectfully and stepped up and moved into the rhythm and routine the doctor had already begun. Thai Chi was not Casela’s strong point, but she respected it none-the-less. Casela wanted to talk to the doctor, about the previous night, but she didn’t want to interrupt her program.

“To be beautiful means to be yourself. You don’t need to be accepted by others. You need to accept yourself.” The Doctor spoke softly even with the rasp that accompanied her voice, not interrupting her flow of motion as the counselor joined her. Her arms move carefully and slowly in circles, keeping in balance with a solid base while still being relaxed. Fey’s mind was blank this morning on purpose, she needed a chance to settle herself after the previous evening of trying to reach out to Hampton. For the most part, it had been successful but still troubling. “What can I do for you counselor, you came looking for me this morning for a reason?”

Casela moved through the forms, her timing slightly behind Fey’s as she watched. She thought the mantra was meant just as much for herself as it was for Fey. Casela continued to follow the from keeping her breath even. This was a new idea for her, apologizing for her behavior. At the very leas the doctor deserved an explanation, because if Casela was not up to performing her duties it fell to Fey, with the help of Casela’s staff. But in the end it was because she liked Doc Fey and she really appreciated her concern. “I wanted to thank you for your concern and your advice last night, it helped a great deal. And to apologize for my dismal behavior. I never drink because I have no tolerance or it, and it was a poor decision to do so last night, and to do so alone at that.”
Lt. Synthi-er, CNS

Fey abruptly stops and sighs, “I have no issue with the fact that you were drinking or with how drunk you were. What I have an issue with was the COMMANDER dismissing me before I could do a proper analysis to make sure you were okay first. Far be it for THE DOCTOR to maintain and monitor the health of the crew when the COMMANDER CLEARLY knows the job better. Had you not mentioned that Hampton had also been drunk and was ALONE, brilliant decision that, I’d have called the Commander’s judgment into question.” The doctor takes a breath, clearly having difficulty keeping her calm to continue the meditative form. She lowers her head for a moment and rests her hands on her hips. “It seems any time you’re involved, he continues to make poor medical choices and I’m really not sure what to do about it. I could make recommendations to the Captain, but I doubt he’ll be able to reprimand or suspend the commander. I’ll be lucky if I can convince him to command the Commander to leave all medical diagnosis to me. You know that day one I met him after you had an argument with him and won? The idiot thought he could patch himself up and I wouldn’t notice! During the physical he was trying to skip out on!” It was clear the Doctor was mostly just venting at this point. She took a deep breath to calm herself and just sat down in a huff, clearly done with the Tai Chi.

Oh, well the doctor certainly has deductive reasoning skills. And now because of me the doctor is made at the commander. Casela needed to step back from this and make a professional suggestion, but her head still throbbed some, and well she was a little too close to the situation. “Doctor, I think…no I strongly recommend that if you have a problem with a decision the Cmdr made concerning a medical issue you need to tell him. I have watched him with his other officers and he’s open minded and he listens, and he’s capable of admitting when he’s wrong. If it isn’t resolved to your satisfaction, then tell the captain. You should have said something last night. As chief medical officer that is your job and your right. And” oh she’d let enough people in on her problem, and Fey was smart, but Casela really shouldn’t say much more. “The cmdr was not really worried about my health. I believe he was more concerned with ship’s security at that point.” She sighed, “And so you know Cpt Cobb is not happy with either of us.”

Casela sat down. Is this what they called ‘girl talk?’ She really wasn’t sure. “The cmdr was trying to treat himself, because I started it. I’m used to dealing with injuries as they occur and I should have sent him to you instead. So bad judgement on my part.” She wasn’t even going to argue that it wasn’t her. She’d like to know how Fey knew that though, when no one else on board did, except Manhattan. Hmmm…was Manhattan a snitch? Well it didn’t matter now though, everyone knew she and Ryder were seeing each other. Casela looked at Fey, “Skip out on a physical? Really? He’s SO star fleet and by the book. He wasn’t a new crew member so shouldn’t his records have been up to date already?” Then Casela saw the problem. “It was erased wasn’t it? Like all the other records? Did he even know that? I mean there are only a handful of people who stayed on board, everyone else is new. And ships communications have been bad too.” Casela shrugged, if Ryder was missing following basic procedures then that was on him and he deserved what he got. “I don’t even know why he was in the lounge to begin with, or you for that matter.”

“As for Hampton, he found me alone in the lounge and decided he wanted a good laugh at my expense. He asked for the truth, and he can’t handle the truth. It freaked him out. I didn’t go after him for 2 reasons, 1 he hates me, with a deep passion and he wouldn’t have let me help. 2, I was too drunk to follow him.”

Fey chuckled but it lacked any form of humor. “This is why I love my medical team. We’re Sweeden in this pot of factions and cliques, we don’t care who you are or where you come from. We expect you to hand over your records willingly so we can make sure you don’t die, grow a new limb, or spontaneously combust.” Fey leaned back to rest on the heels of her palms, leaning her head back to look to the ceiling. “I shouldn’t judge so harshly, for ‘Time spent judging the failures of others is time lost from recognizing and acknowledging your own faults.’ You all stress me out over infighting, attempts at sabotage, plans for advancement by manipulating others, ideologies that are not maintainable. At the end of the day, I just want to survive long enough to get back home to my sister. I prefer that none of you die, but at this point, that is looking to be an unrealistic expectation.”

Casela shook her head, “Would you believe me, Doctor, if I told you that is why I’m here. To help ease the tensions between everyone, between the factions, as it were, and make it work. I am certainly qualified to be ships counselor but my experience certainly doesn’t reflect that.” She smiled bitterly. “You have an amazing medical team. Each department on this ship has an amazing team. They just don’t work together well. I hope that my counseling team will be of great help your medical team when needed. They are good officers and they care about the well being of the crew.”

Casela nodded, “I’m glad you have someone to return to, Doctor. It’s a precious gift to have family like that. And your sister has been most generous in sending you delicacies. I’m sorry I didn’t try the pie last night. Just the sweet smell made my stomach upset. And for future reference, if you are there for my medical health, I will always defer to you. I didn’t realize you had arrived to check on my physical well being.”

“I don’t think command wants us to come back honestly. But if anyone can make that happen it will Captain Cobb.”
