Casela left her office. The isochip tucked into a secret pocket in her uniform. She closed her eyes. She needed to get drunk. That worked right? It made you forget? By the non existant Gods of Betazed, if she could go back and do it over, she’d have made sure she died in that compound. Cobb and the crew were worth it, right? She didn’t read the file. It was for Cobb not her. There was a personal message in there too. She hoped Roebuck didn’t tell Cobb what this was going to cost her. What was the most ironic thing, she KNEW Zachariah, hell RYDER was going to be so flippin disappointed in her. She knew WHEN that happened, but not how and she didn’t want it to matter, but it did. She cursed in several languages as she walked into the lounge. Tonight it was empty. She went behind the bar, found the strongest bottle of liquer that was, took it and a glass and sat in the darkest corner of the lounge.

She hated drinking, it was disgusting, but eventually, and after too few, it didn’t matter anymore. She stopped using the glass too.

Lt. Synthier

It was a late night, Hampton had been in his lab, but unable to concentrate. He was tired and needed alone time. He headed to his quarters but realized he hadn’t been to the lounge other than to investigate a snow cloud. He sighed and turned back the way he came and ended up in the lounge a few minutes later, it wasn’t bad, the setup was actually quite nice. The lights were dimmed though, and for a moment, Hampton thought he was alone. Suddenly he heard the sound of a bottle on a table. He spun around startled to see Synthi-er drinking straight from a bottle. “Well well well.” He chuckled. Walking over to where the counselor sat. “What have we here?” He could not hide his amusement from the counselor, and so did not bother trying.

Lt. William Hampton- CE

Casela looked up. Hampton. The man hated her and she knew why, but what really ticked her off at the moment he hated her for things outside of her control. She had NEVER done a thing to him. She even checked to see if by some chance their path’s had crossed and her orders had negatively affected him. There was nothing she could find. “You wanna laugh at me, you have to drink.” She took another long swig from the bottle. The empty glass, she took and spun it on it’s edge expertly over and over again watching the light refract through it. When it would start to wobble she’d snatch it from the table. This time she poured the drink into the glass and drank from it. Forget sipping. She’d even miss Hampton. He was brilliant and really was one of the good guys, despite his anger at everything around him. But she understood that anger. He’d make it though. She took another longs shot from her glass.
Lt. Synthi-er

Hampton took a seat next to her. “Then pour me a glass.” He was beaming a smile at her. Pleasure in others misery was the primary and only real way Hampton ever felt happiness. He had been depressed for sometime, this was the perfect thing he needed to get out of that rut. “I will admit, of all the puppets on this ship you are my favorite.” He began, “Where are your strings being pulled these days?” It was loaded question, but Hampton’s intuition told him Casela was battling with her conscious at the moment, why else would she be drinking alone? He had heard, and believed the rampant speculation that she and the XO were together, if this were a regular night, he imagined she’d be with him. Something was amiss, he could tell.

Lt. William Hampton- CE

Casela refilled the glass and gave it to him. She side eyed him wondering why he was sitting beside her rather than the other side of the table. She shrugged, what did it matter? “Puppet? That’s a good word for it.” She mumbled in what Hampton would guess was about 5 different languages and from the force of it, she was swearing. “I’m your favorite for first to die.” She laughed and pulled another drink off the bottle. “It’s your lucky day, Hampton. Sooner, there is no later now, I’ll be dead, or at least gone off this ship. I give it a year.” She takes another drink.

Lt. Synthi-er

“I know it is.” Hampton responded, downing the glass in a single drink. “I haven’t made that list yet actually Counselor, but you are near the top.” Hampton smiled, putting the glass down on the table. “But so is every RTF agent, so don’t take it to personally.” He raised an eyebrow at her comment. “I’ve never had a lucky day in my life counselor.” he replied with a hint of melancholy. “Who’s after you?” He asked, “Surely not somebody you work for.” He continued sarcastically.

Lt. William Hampton- CE

Casela sneered, “A shadow.” She poured him another and then started to take another pull off the bottle and then stopped. “A insert all kinds of vulgar words here shadow.” Then she did take another drink. “If you hate RTF so much Hampton, why did you come to this comedy of errors? You’re bloody brilliant, surely you could go anywhere.” She took another pull, she was going to empty the bottle very soon at that rate.
Lt. Synthi-er

Hampton leaned back in his chair confused. “A shadow?” he repeated. He paused and let Casela finish. Sighing he took another sip. I did not understand what the RTF truly was until I was onboard this ship.” At her comment about going anywhere, Hampton shook his head. “My ideals and values are not traditional starfleet ones, this makes me unworkable in the eyes of many within the organization.”

Lt. William Hampton- CE

Casela nodded, “A shadow. Seen where it’s been but never where it is.” She was rather serious and Hampton realized that was the best description for what or who was coming for her. “You could single handedly redesign warp drive travel. They are hiding you, and your brilliance. Don’t let them. The federation and Star Fleet are not the end all of opportunities. Wish I’d known that sooner.” She lifts the bottle to her mouth again. “This stuff is disgusting.” But she takes another drink anyway. She nods across the room where the ice cloud had been. “How often to those things happen? And then we carry what we find with us. It’s like magnets I bet. The longer we keep them the more those things follow us around. We’ll all die from them before we understand them.
Lt. Synthi-er

Hampton shook his head, the alcohol was clearly effecting the counselor. She was starting to ramble about things that didn’t make sense, talking about “them” and death. He looked at her. “I have contingency plans for nearly every career path I take Counselor. Do not be worried, come hell or high water I’m prepared.” He snickered. “I’d love to see them come for me, I would love the challenge of defeating them, which I would.” He slid his glass to Casela. “You’ll all be dead, I have five different escape plans, I’d survive.”

Lt. William Hampton- CE

Casela filled his glass looked at the bottle and started to pushed Hampton out of the way. Instead she sat cross legged on the table, turned and then hoped off the other side. She was heading for the bar and what ever else she could find. Despite the amount she’d had she was still walking straight, for the moment. It probably hadn’t hit her yet. She grabbed another bottle, looked at it and cursed at it. She grabbed another bottle, a second glass, and went back to the table. She put it down. “Do me a favor Hampton, make sure I’m dead before you escape.” She poured a glass and drank what ever it was she had grabbed.
Lt. Synthi-er

“Don’t you have a boyfriend?” Hampton asked, turning back to look at Synthi-er. “Get him to do it, in this scenario I don’t have time for mercy killings.” He snickered at his own joke. “You know you shouldn’t be so miserable, all joking aside, you have someone to live for, which is more than most of us can say on this ship.” Hampton said as Casela returned to the table.

Lt. William Hampton- CE

Casela looked at Hampton, one brow raised. “Listening to the rumor mill?” didn’t mean it wasn’t true. Casela shrugged. “Maybe, Hampton, but it has nothing to do with having someone to live for. It’s has to do with survival. All having someone to care about does, is leave behind broken hearts and shattered lives. A lot of anger and bitterness.” She pours another glass and downs about a 1/4 of it. She didn’t feel like thinking about her ‘boyfriend.’ The man who wanted to ignore who and what she was because it didn’t fit into his picture of how the universe was supposed to work.
Lt. Synthi-er

Hampton poured himself a glass and raised it. “Word travels.” He disagreed with Casela, but he had no evidence to argue against her perspective. To that matter he offered, “Well I can tell you being alone doesn’t exactly stop anger and bitterness either.” He sat back in his chair. “Why does anyone want you dead anyway?” He asked, taking a drink. “Of the RTF agents here you aren’t the most vile.”

Lt. William Hampton-CE

Casela lifted her glass, “No that’s true. Anger and bitterness go everywhere.” She laughs, but it’s hollow. She drinks again and then grunts. “I’m not R…Okay so I’m RTF, not by choice, but I wasn’t before now. And, well, I made a lot of the wrong people mad. I have collected a lot of....favors over the years, and I’ve called in a few too many.” She drains her glass and fills another one. “As to why, well it depends on who the shadow is and what I know that I shouldn’t.”
Lt. Synthi-er

“The puppet master probably doesn’t like it when you try and move your strings on your own. But what could you possibly know that is so dangerous?” Hampton mused, “I certainly hope your favors aren’t putting us at risk.” He shrugged. “But knowing you, they have, and now everybody is going to be more jumpy than they already are. So thank you for that.”

Lt. William Hampton- CE
“Knowing me? You don’t know me, Hampton. You think you know me, what you want to see based on assumptions, because I’m ‘RTF’ and a counselor to poke around your head and get in the way. Or maybe like you, I only show what I need to. You assume I’m reckless and and bad at what I do, but you don’t know. And if I knew what it was I wasn’t supposed to know I’d have taken care of it. This ship and crew, for the most part is innocent and will be in the clear.” She downed her glass and suddenly decided she didn’t want any more. She turned and put her back towards the wall and propped her feet in the chair next to her. Where was Cobb? Didn’t he usually come in here to drink before he was done for the day? Or Ryder for that matter....oh yeah on duty in CIC for Bravo shift. She looked at the bottle again, and decided on not yet.
Lt. Synthi-er

Hampton’s eyes narrowed. He picked up the bottle and poured another glass. He had begun to forget why he hated Casela so much, now he remembered. “Counselor, in case you haven’t noticed, nobody knows anyone on this ship, that’s the problem. No, I don’t actually know you, but I’ve seen what you do and how you treat people, and I know your history so I can extrapolate a few things about you.” He took a sip. “You act outside the boundaries of protocol every chance you get, you despise chain of command, and you prefer to handle things off the book” He leaned forward in his seat, drink in hand. “If any of those statements are false, do let me know, but as I was saying, I’m sure you have no doubt done something off the books that you know you shouldn’t be doing and now you’ve popped up on somebody’s radar.” His eyes narrowed, “Tell me I’m wrong.”
