It had taken him a month to reach his new assignment somewhere at the back end of nowhere. The inactivity had not been easy especially after 3 months attending OCS on Andoria. Andorrans were not his favorite people, and the planet was cold.

He watched as other replacement crew transported away, it was never a good sign to see new shave tail marines and security personnel coming aboard your new ship. After the others were ton he stepped onto the transporter. “If you screw this up I will haunt you, crew man!” As the containment beam activated and the angry bee sound of the scanners engaged and he was torn apart one and converted to energy. Most people didn’t feel anything during transport but that wasn’t true for Bog, wether it was just a trick or the kind or not he was aware of the passage of a few seconds, and a myriad of distorted images and sounds.
Rematerializing on the transporter pad on the Leviathan as the cannon fodder was leaving the room, he began to check that he was indeed in one piece and they were all in the same place. Glaring at the transporter operator, “ Where did you get your operators license, an Orion trader?! I swear you misplaced five kilos of me! I aught to have your ears for that! He whole time the short, hairy rumple faced Tellurite advanced on the transporter control podium. Despite the single pip on his collar denoting his rank as Ensin, it was every inch a crusty old Master Chief advancing across the deck on the bewildered crew man.

At the transporter station, the Klingon officer simply sat, stony-faced, and watched as the little man continued to yell at him.

“Do you have anything to say for your self?!” He bellowed, “Well do you?!” The transporter operator wold later swear to his friends that that Teller Bogs beady little eyes were red as steam was coming out his ears.

Rising from his seat, the Transporter Operator cleared the top of Bog’s head by at least a foot, maybe more. Moving around the console desk to stand toe to toe with the new arrival, he crossed his arms and bared pointed teeth before replying, “I should have misplaced at least another ten. You could do to lose some weight!”

The happy grin spread across his face, but the offered hand was interrupted buy the arrival of the CO.

Fortunately, although for which party could not quite be determined, the Captain had just entered the room. Having been pre-warned this time of his latest batch of arrivals, it had been his desire to offer each of them a personal greeting. Sadly, Manhattan’s guys had already been told not to bother with anyone outside of the RTF, it seemed.

Which just left…Bog. Catching a mere fraction of the lead-up before the pair had faced off, Cobb had initially been of a mind to simply hang back and watch the skirmish unfold. But as the situation appeared to shift from humorous encounter and towards “boots and saddles” territory, Zachariah had no other option but to intervene.

“Gentlemen, gentlemen!” he called out, placing his own sizeable bulk between the pair. “I shall have more decorum on my ship, thank you. We’re not in some back alley bar now. We’re on a Starfleet vessel and it’s a burden we must all shoulder to try and live up to that.”

Eyeing the Captain a moment, Bog’s reply was almost civil. “This is the first civilized person ai have meet in over a month, and you interrupted our greeting Captain!” Looking up and almost under the Captain’s arm to address the Klingon,” I will halve you know, it has taken me a lot of effort to fill out this uniform!”

“Civilised?” Cobb echoed questioningly, glancing over at the Klingon as he did so. For his part, the transporter operator simply nodded, barked out a terse “Captain” and then returned to his seat. He would be denied the delights of battle this evening, it seemed.

Stepping back to get a better look at the Captain, “Saw a lot of fresh faced security and marines come aboard, that usually not a good sign, Sir.”

His normal abrasive nature just slightly curbed buy who he was addressing…

Zachariah released a burdensome sigh and ran a hand along his beard. “Aye, I’ll make no argument to that. But, ‘tis the way of things on this ship, it seems.” Then with arms outstretched and more than a hint of frustrated sarcasm to his tone, he declared, “Welcome to the bloody ARU.”

At the transporter console, the Klingon officer snorted out a congruent laugh.

“Thank you Captain, I except that dubious honor.” Bog eyed the Klingon wishing to continue the rousing exchange. “Perhaps the powers to be sent me to this gods forsaken part of the galaxy to figure out a way to keep a few of those young fools alive.” Typically, Tho the security department got all the glory, engineers took the brunt of the casualties aboard ship. If that wasn’t the case here, things were going to be interesting.

Cobb cast a dubious glance in the direction of the Tellarite, silently impressed that he’d managed to keep himself alive for such a time, but in no mind to begin entrusting him with the care of others. Still, if Zachariah had learned one thing over the years, it was that nothing in this universe was ever quite what it seemed. And he had an inkling that this little man was going to set a new standard in that department.

But the captain was no fool and could feel the tension still brewing between the two officers. So, with a nod towards Bog’s belongings, Cobb took a purposeful step towards the door and ordered over his shoulder, “Walk with me, Ensign.”

Disappointed that he couldn’t trade a few more good natured barbs with the Klingon, Bog policed his kit, and fell into step. “Ay Sir” eyeing the state of the ship, he wondered what the engineering department was doing exactly. “She seams a bit rough, Skipper.” He said absently.

Bog the magnificent…
