Posted by… suppressed (1) by the Post Ghost! 👻It was the night before they arrived to the Paulson Nebula, and her birthday. Luckily for her no one on RTF bunked on deck 3 where her ‘official’ quarters were, so they hadn’t got wind of Ryder’s little announcement. She gave a perfectly believable, and true excuse that she had crew evals to finalize before the mission official started the next day. So she high tailed it out of training before she was forced into another night of watching the RTF team drink too much. Plus knowing her luck someone on deck 3 heard Ryder and was waiting to ambush her in the lounge. Nope, and she wasn’t going to the counseling deck either. Too easy to find her. And she certainly was NOT going to her quarters. Again, too easy. She took a different turbo lift than the RTF team and headed straight to deck 2. Cobb would be out for the day, and if not it was unlikely he would be wandering the deck. She stepped off the turbolift onto deck two and headed right for Ryder’s door. He made a habit of walking the decks right after his shift. So she had time to get in before he actually got back. His door was locked, well at least he remembered to do that. But it was, unfortunately for him, an easy thing to short circut a lock and step in while the doors were unsealed, while the panel reset itself. If it set off an alarm and notified him all the better. She didn’t look around she simply found a chair to sit in, put her head back, and closed her eyes, until she heard him arrive.
Lt. Synthi-er, CNS/not the happy birthday girl.Twenty minutes later the was still no sign of the Commander however NE Harrison made his way through the ship, with him a bag heavy enough to cut the circulation to his arm and in turn making his fingertips tingle. The ship had reported a momentary shirt circuit which he chief engineer was not going to ignore especially since it was Executive Officers quarters and the current anomolies roaming the halls.
Finally the Harrison dropped the heavy bag outside the door and looked at the panel which didn’t seem to be malfunctions. “OK let’s see what we have here” He pulled out several tools and removed the panel, looking Into the innards of the ship.
Casela heard the thud of a heavy tool bag outside the door, ‘Well crap, engineering picked up the glitch.’ Casela moved to a chair farther from the door and left the lights off.
At that same moment Commander Ryder walked round the corner off from his duty at midnight, ship time. “Crewman, what’s happening here?” He asked curious as to why an engineering officer was knelt next to his door and half the control mechanism expose. The Trill officer waited for his response.
Jolting causing his hand to slip and the console to spark the door opened momentarily and closed again, with the NE distracted by the Commander he didn’t see who was inside “Sorry sir, the ship detected a small malfunction with your door, after last time with the chief medical officer Chief Hampton wanted to make sure it was OK. Everything seems in order though. Just a glicth” Harrison quickly worked and placed every back where it was.
When the doors opened she stayed very still knowing if she moved it would give her away. The doors closed again, with none the wiser. She could hear the conversation outside the door, ‘Yeah a glitch, that’s what your supposed to think.’
Ryder however was a little more dubious, “Have you or anyone else been inside Crewman?” He asked his armed crossed wondering who would want to break I to his own private quarters but at this time of night all he could thing about was sleep.
‘Not since he showed up.’ Casela laughed a little to herself. She better get her laughs now though. Ryder was just as likely to have her detained in the brig as to let her stay. Either way, no visitors and she could get some sleep.
“None that I am aware sir, would you like me to call security?” He asked a little to eagerly as he tugged the heavy engineers tools box onto his shoulder.
“No its quiet already crewman, get back so you can knock off for the night, Bravo shift ended ten minutes ago.” This caused the crewman to nod, wave and leave rather quickly with left just Ryder alone with whomever it was in his quarters. Stifling a yawn he opened his door and stepped in, scanning the dimley lit room.
- Commander Ryder, XO
Someone was sitting in the dark in the far chair of the room. She shifted slightly, the light from outside the window glinting off her necklace, telling Ryder exactly who was in his quarters. “It really isn’t that hard to short circuit a door lock like that. Guess it’s in my favor it’s been malfunctioning.” Casela’s voice drifted across the dark room, followed by a hint of laughter.
Ryder had anticipated the other person in the room, so he wasn’t surprised. The Trill XO waited for the door to close behind him, “Computer Lights, you know Cas that the doors arnt meant to be broken into and especially not by disgruntled girlfriends” he teased, “You’re lucky he didn’t come in to fix the problem.”
The only word she really heard was ‘girlfriend’ and that took on a whole new meaning and made her uneasy. Was that really what she had gotten herself into? She had an internal argument with herself, and in the end she supposed that was the correct term, but though it didn’t sit well. Casela shook her head, “I heard him coming off the turbolift. Really those tool bags are too clunky and heavy. I would have been in the other room before he opened the door. And it was the outside lock anyway, no need for him to come in. You asked for discrete, and I was.”
She stood up and walked toward him, “I told you, Ryder, you would pay for announcing my birthday to the whole of deck 3.” Her voice was low and soft, just in case he misinterpreted her, her hands were open and out to her sides. Casela kept walking until she was a scarce inch from him. “So now you have a house guest.” Ryder had meant to tease her, and she really didn’t know how she felt about that. Her hand coming up to trace over the runes again. She’d been angry, no uneasy, and worked it out on a heavy bag. If he could accept her temper, then she supposed she had to accept his humor. Though it made her feel off balance. And that was more the reason she was here, because despite pushing her buttons, he also steadied her. Well and no one would come looking for her here, yet. In a day or so the rumors would start.

Ryder closed the gap and wrapped his arms around her waist, before kissing her. “Well I could have asked for worst house guests, does this house guest expect to stay the night or shall I ask for room service too?” He was taking pleasure in teasing her and he wanted her to know it so he gave her a parting kiss. “I’ve got to get changed, I’d say make yourself at home but… Its seems you already have.
- Commander Ryder, XO
She kissed him back, only briefly. “I’m staying until they stop looking for me, or my next shift starts. They have to give up eventually.” Oh maybe not, staying all night had other implications that Casela was not ready to deal with. “Room service?” she asked confused. There was a replicator, the point was to get away from people not have them find her. What kind of idea was that? As he walked away she snorted, “I have been perfectly polite. I didn’t touch a thing.” And she hadn’t, but she laughed anyway.
“Well ai haven’t got much for you to touch anyway, I packed everything uo for the refit and haven’t put it all back.” He left the room and her behind him while he quickly washed and changed.
When he came back out she of course was still in uniform, except her jacket was now slung across the back of the chair she was sitting in.
Lt. Synthi-er, CNS
Wearing now just a pair of shirts and a shift he walked to the replicator, “Drink?” He waited for her response before ordering his own knowing that she didn’t like Noas drinking habits and whilst he didn’t have a taste for Brandy Ryder still did like to take the edge of especially after a hard day’s work, only made more difficult by their pending arrival. The crew was a constant battle to keep from fighting each with RTF marking their territories and Engineering refitting the the ship, thinking back to his earlier comment about her being his girlfriend he wondered if that was too soon, but honestly if not that what were they?
- Commander Ryder, XO
Casela noticed his hesitation and could surmise what it was about. Why did she have to be so observant? “Water for me. And as long as your drink of choice is not Yridian ale (OOC: Isn’t that Noa’s drink of choice? if not change it) we’ll be fine.” No need to dance around it. Casela knew people used drink to take the edge off. She never understood it, but look at how she took the edge off? Extra weapons training with the safeties turned as far down as they would go. She was in no place to judge. But she would really prefer not to smell that particularly foul drink on Ryder’s breath. They hadn’t talked about why Noa and she had hated each other so much, and she really didn’t want to associate Ryder with Noa any more than she already had.
She stretched her legs out a bit and groaned softly. “Your the executive officer, explain something to me. I thought we were going after weird sciency things that acted naughty. Why do we need a full regiment of marines on board? I mean I get, one team, in case they’re really bad, but a whole regiment? I’m the master of over kill, but even that makes me look like an amateur.” In all honesty she knew why, but she was just sick of training with RTF and Manhattan’s bid to ‘fix’ her. Command them…over her head body. Turn her respectable…yeah that possibility went out the door the day she joined S31.
She thought back to his comment, and she supposed it was true she was his ‘girlfriend’ which mean that she had a boyfriend, and that just sounded strange to her. “So if I’m your girlfriend does that mean I have to act all doe-eyed all the time, ‘cause that’s not happening.” The only problem with that, was she hadn’t meant to say any of that, and she hadn’t realized yet that she’d spoken aloud.
