A week had passed and still, neither he and Casela had spoken about what had happened, with the Paulsan nebula less than 24 hours away. Having used the ship’s systems to pinpoint her location Ryder decided to track and hunt her down, unsurprisingly she was one of the meditation rooms alone. He had considered not disrupting her but if he didn’t his own thoughts would tear him apart and what kind of counselor would she be if she didn’t help him!Pausing at the door he took in a deep breath and entered. “Casela?” He called out the light was dim, as was the mediation rooms usual setting.
- Commander Ryder, XO
All at once her memory and her present collided in a spectacular collision. Although physically she didn’t move, her eyes snapped open her gaze locking with his. She sighed very softly to herself. This wasn’t a complication she was ready to handle at the moment. Then again she never handled her own complications; she just moved on, literally. She stood smoothly, thankful her rubs had finally healed, despite the daily battering that was RTF training.
She wasn’t sure if she should call him Rauuhl or Ryder. She didn’t care for rank, ever, and she wasn’t starting this conversation, whatever it was about, as his subordinate. But her thought of a week before of course I used your first name came back to her. “Yes, Ryder?”
Lt. Synthi-er, CNS
He studied her, his eyes locked with hers and all he could think was how beautiful she was. “You’ve been avoiding me, and well avoiding what happened. ” He sighed heavily before adding. “I’m going to sound so cliche but we need to talk” The Trill officer walked slowly towards her, he had seen what those hands could do but the drive of what her lips could do carried his weight as the gap between them diminished.
- Commander Ryder, XO
Casela wanted to sound very stern, but her eyes laughed, “Avoiding? I would call it more of a strategic evasion. I don’t know what you’ve been doing, but I have been very busy.” She’d even managed to create work for herself. Casela resisted the urge to step back as he entered her space, rather she shifted her weight, balancing out his own stance, almost like a dance. His eyes gave away exactly what he was thinking–the same thing she was. She knew exactly what he wanted to talk about, but it was so easy to irritate him. “I haven’t finished with the crew evaluations yet, but if you want to start going over them, that is certainly your prerogative.” She watched his face very carefully. She knew how fast he could move, and though it was fun to irritate him to a point, she had no desire to go rounds with him again.
Lt. Synthi-er, CNS“You’re trying to get a rise from me, it won’t work. ” He said crossing his arms, it might have worked over a week ago. A week ago he would have maybe shouted, scoffed or just walked away but today he was different and whether she would like to admit it or not they were different. “How have you been, besides busy of course? Since you seem to be trying to strategically avoid me I’ve noticed your schedules grow. Even during out of hours.”
- Commander Ryder, XO
“You’re watching my schedule?”That was the first thing she took away from his words. He was stalking her? She really didn’t know what to make of that. She smirked slightly, it had been worth a shot to goad him. She’d have to try harder next time. Circling back to his question, “I’ve been bu…I’ve been fine, minus some ribs that didn’t want to heal.” Her eyes told a totally different story. What she was, was a ball of nervous energy. Falling back on her hot headed flippant attitude, “I’ve been working to get ready for this mission and make sure the rest of the crew is ready. Apparently you’ve been having midnight trysts with the good doctor.” She had meant it to be a joke because of Irida’s gossipy mouth, but it didn’t come out that way. It bothered her more than she was willing to admit that he’d rather spend his time else where. But that was good thing. Her job was dangerous and she didn’t have time for sentimentality. Girly, it will sneak up on you, and it’s hard, but it’s worth it. T’Jal wasn’t even here and she was giving advice.
Caseal moved around the room, replacing candles and incense that was out. She sat down on a cushion. “What did you need to talk about, Ryder?”
Lt. Synthi-er, CNS
He must really have had her rattled, or at least caught her during a moment of weakness because he had never really seen her speak to much about so many different things. And the array of emotions that twisted on her face, he could swear he saw nervousness, that’s when her words hit her. “Midnight trysts!” he said, well almost spat out as he tried to hold in his laughter in fear of angering her more. “The doctor was hunting people down for their medical check-ins, apparently the ship’s medical logs had been corrupted due to the refit and she thought I was out of date. I explained to her that I had been on the ship before, that’s when she noticed the work you did on me and scolded me for half an hour whilst she repaired my broken ribs.” then something occurred to Trill, “And why am I justifying all that too you, what if we were having midnight trysts.” This was meant to also come out as a joke but to much emotion carried on it, he ignored her second question.
- Commander Ryder, XO
The shock on his face made the corner of her mouth twitch slightly in a grin. And then his hasty explanation did make her grin. His words seemed to snap at her though, ‘work you did on me,’ ‘my broken ribs.’ Casela felt like he was accusing her of something. He’d done quite a number on her as well, and it was his idea that they should go rounds about it. Accused her of misbehavior. Her eyes flashed with anger and something else..hurt or something very similar. “I told you I would help if you needed it. You could have avoided the doctor.” Her tone was an art form in flippancy. Unfortunately for her she’d probably used the tone a little too much with Ryder and he would see it for what it was.
She locked eyes with him when he asked the last question. She swore softly under her breath. ‘So what if he was?’ It meant she’d misjudged him and herself. And for all her very good reason to stay out of any type of relationship, she wanted it anyway. She shrugged trying to indicate she didn’t care. But she heard the emotion in the question and sighed. “It shouldn’t matter, but it does.” Oh she really shouldn’t have said that. But what now?Lt. Synthi-er, CNS
About to make a sarcastic retort Ryder sat down next to her a little less angered than he may have felt before, “What shouldn’t matter?” He sighed leaning back against the wall. “I don’t know why I ask questions I know the answers to but here I am. What’s happening here Casela?”
- Commander Ryder, XO
“That the doc saw you with your shirt off and I didn’t.” Casela quipped. Honestly that didn’t bother her. She knew Fey was ever the professional. She was torn between being honest, which she tried to be when possible (didn’t happen much) or goading him so they didn’t have this conversation. Then he sat down and she side eyed him. The man kept getting closer into her personal space and both times that happened he’d kissed her. Casela had to make an effort to stay relaxed. At his question she turned and stared at him for a moment. “How would I know? You started this with that crazy idea to fight out our issues. Look where that got us?” She looks him straight in the eye. “We already know it wasn’t a 1 time thing.”
Lt. Synthi-erHe shrugged a little annoyed, “You always answer questions with another questions. You’d make a fantastic politician” Ryder decided that his time, and his effort might be better spent else where. He stood, “Well I’m sorry for interupping on your meditation, Lieutenant.” Had he rally expected anything less from her, after all that is half the reason he liked her so much.
- Commander Ryder, XO
Before he could get up her hand shot out and grabbed his wrist. “Damn you, Ryder Rauuhl. I never said you were bothering me.” Well he was but not the way he said. “You want me off my high horse, then you get off yours too. Sit down.” Her hand tugged him back down. He’d rilled her and it was obvious. “What do you want me to say? That I liked it? Yes I did.” She put her head back against the wall. “I don’t know what it is but you distract me to the point of frustration.”
Lt. Synthi-erHe stopped, though it wasnt like he had a choice with her iron grip on his hand, her touch was electric. “And they say romance is dead” He couldn’t help but chuckle but he did have to go, he coming here was only meant to be fleeting as to avoid an awkward conversation just like this though he wasn’t sure how else it would have ended. “Look I really got to go, and I’m not trying to just escape, well I am but I have to report for duty but later, we should talk and no fighting this time” He squeezed her hand reassuringly.
- Commander Ryder, XO
Casela shook her head, “Not quite yet. There is something that needs to be said. Before we arrive at Paulson.” She squeezed this hand. “What happens when you have to send me on an away team and it’s dangerous? What happens if we both go and I have to make that hard choice, or you do? I was told once by someone very wise that it’s all worth it, if your strong enough.” She looked over at him again, “So the question that needs discussing is, are we strong enough? Next time, no fighting, on my word.” She let go of his hand.
Lt. Synthi-er, CNS
His response wasn’t something he was willing to discuss right now, there was more to think about but that was a good start. What they really needed to think about was it also the right thing to do. “Next time.” He said finally with a small smile and nod before slowly walking to the door. Pausing in the door way he looked to the ceiling as if asking for guidance before stepping out into the brightly lit corridor towards the CIC.
- Commander Ryder, XO
Casela knew that look, as he gazed at the ceiling, and even though there were many things to think about, for her her question was the only that mattered. She didn’t care much for regulations and brass. She’d been burned too many times for the sake of ‘regulations.’ Before he could get out the door, “Cmdr Rauuhl? Could I have my weapons back now?” She looked at him dead serious. At this point Ryder should realize he hadn’t seen her armed since before the AARM malfunctioned.
Lt. Synthi-er, CNS
He stopped looked over her shoulder, “Since you’ve been disarmed for the past few days has there been any need to use your weapons? Nope, not one. Don’t misjudge my.. Feelings for weakness. No Weapons, for now. And don’t think I won’t notice, I notice everything about you. ” Ryder may have come across harsher than necessary but he still had a job today, and he enjoyed ruffling her feather even just a bit.
